Jack Charles Downey CD, beloved husband of the late Ethel (Eve) Downey passed away at home on January 17, 2014.
Jack was born April 15, 1934 in London, Ontario. After 25 years of military service across Canada and in Germany, Jack worked at the Solicitor General Correctional Services before retiring at age 65. During his retirement he enjoyed being an idea generator on various projects, including collecting and shipping medical aid and education material to war torn countries. His visits to Cambodia included rehabilitation hospitals for mine victims, and schools for children in remote areas. Jack spent his last 10 years at Wentworth Manor where he wrote articles about Canadian culture which were published, and enjoyed editing material for others.
Jack is survived by his sons Brock Downey and Brant Downey, and grandson Grant Higginson who all live in Calgary.
A Celebration of Jack’s life will be held at the Carriage House Inn (9030 MacLeod Trail South) on Friday, January 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Special thanks to all the wonderful staff at Wentworth Manor for their excellent care and friendship.
