  13. Balbir Bahadursingh :

Aunty Nelly as I know her was one of the most beautiful lady I have ever known. I was just seven years of age when I met this wonderful woman. A mother like figure to me, an aunt, a mentor in her own way. Advice I will always cherish. I learnt so much from her when it to comes to farming, poultry and fishing for one ‘Jun’ curry. A mother of so many wonderful children whom I became so close to. Perfect is not the right word to describe how she brought up her children so mannerly and obedient. What ever life had to offer her she was always contented with it. A good cook, a very good home maker and at evenings she would entertain you intelligently capturing your attention with her make believe ‘Nancy’ stories. One of her best for me was the Flamingo story.

A trip I did not make to visit her when she was still with us and now a funeral I will always regret. Aunt Nelly please forgive me.

May God find you the most peaceful resting place and may he awaken you in heaven among his angels.

To the surviving children and families, my deepest sympathy and may God give you the strength and faith to carry on with her everlasting memories as a mother and best friend.

  14. I wish to express to Auntie Nellie’s family my sincere condolences and pray for strength at this time of your profound loss. I encourage you, that as you mourn the loss of this dear mother, to stop and celebrate her life and reflect on the 92 years that she spent here on earth. Give God praise and thanks for such a wonderful gift in the person of Auntie Nellie. We can all take a page or a little chapter of her long life and use it as a legacy to make a difference in someone else’s life. We can also use it in our own personal lives to make us a better people.
My prayers are with the sons and daughters and all of the grand children, relatives and friends. I encourage the family to stand together and give auntie Nellie a great send off, fitting for a woman who lived life to the fullest and did an excellent job in raising her children and grand children to fear God and keep his commandments.
I never knew her much, but what I know of her is through her daughter, Mame Jean and her granddaughter, Esther. Based on what I know, if I were to really and truly pay tribute to her, it will be as follows:

She was a woman whose courage was manifested in widow hood and the upbringing and educating of her children and more notoriously, the courage to fight sickness to the very end. She was dignified with a sense of nobility of service to her children, in laws, grandchildren and even strangers. With all that she went through and endured to the very end, we can safely confer upon her the title as a woman of “resilience”.
God was very gracious to her in allowing her the opportunity to not only make preparation for eternity but to have lived a full life with values rooted in the depth and simplicity of her abiding faith, that this life is to be lived to the fullest as a preparation for the next.

In summary, she was a woman who was there for her children, a woman who never asked for much, a woman who never said much, a woman who never expected anything in return, a woman who always carried a smile, a woman who instilled values for a life time, a woman who never complained no matter how much pain or suffering she was in, a woman who loved life and feared God, a woman whom God lent to us for 92 years and spared so many times of near death experiences, a woman who has made her parents proud, her children proud, her grand children proud, her sons and daughters in laws. A woman who has always been a good daughter, a wonderful friend, a saint of God, a proud mother, a wonderful human being. A woman who stood by her children, and grand children. Through it all, she saw them stumble, she saw them fail she saw them fall and she saw them succeed. Farewell and thank you. May your soul rest in peace Auntie Nellie. Heaven is rejoicing because a saint has come home.

To Rena and all the family, Evangeline and I send our deepest sympathy at this time of grief. But we must all be thankful that she lived a full life and has left behind wonderful memories that will continue to be recalled on numerous occasions in the future. Auntie Nellie always had a warm, caring and jovial personality that I can recall from the many times I dropped in at the home in Washington (West Berbice) in the days of long ago. My the memories she has left behind last with us forever!

Aunt Nellie was such a terrific person. She had a personality that was unmatchable and will make friends everywhere she goes. During my ten years teaching at Seafield Primary School, West Coast Berbice in Guyana; Auntie Nellie was a frequent visitor. My aunt Lazina also taught there during my stint. As we were close friends with Rena, she will bring fruits from the trees in her yard at Washington for us. Her trademark smile was adorable and infectious. To her children, many of whom I am acquainted with, I offer my deepest sympathy especially to Rena, Jean, Craig, Doug and Bill. RIP Auntie Nelly.

    Dear Rena and family,
We’re so sorry to hear about your Mom/Grandmother. Our parents, when they pass on, will never be forgotten and indeed, she was an integral part of your lives for many years. Your loss can’t be measured, we know that, but just know that our prayers are with you and we hope that all of the fond memories will outweigh the grief your family is going through.

Rena, I won’t be able to attend the funeral, as I just got back from Toronto last night, from my father-in-law’s funeral, and am trying desperately to rebook my clients. My best to you and your family as you celebrate your mom’s life.

  22. Esther, Mandy, Kevin & Cindy :

The Bible conveys a message that death is not the end of life; it is only the body that perishes, the spirit can never die … it continues to live. This thought brings a lot of comfort during the time of sorrow. When the heart weeps for the end of a dear one’s life, the mind tells you that this is not the end, but a new beginning of the journey with God. Nonetheless, when grief over death, strikes us, it becomes difficult to be able to think rationally. Lord thank you for comforting us at this time.
I thank God for my grandmother and the life that she lived I am grateful for all the things she has taught me to become the woman I am today. Forever missed by all of us.

If roses grow in Heaven, Lord
Please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms
And tell her they’re from me.

Tell her I love her and miss her,
And when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek
And hold her for a while.

    Because remembering her is easy,
    I do it everyday,
But there is an ache within my heart
That will never go away I will always love and cherish your memories grand ma Nellie
