DOHERTY, Robert (Bob) Dempster

June 7, 1931 – May 15, 2012

It is with great sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, companion, best friend, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, Robert (Bob) Dempster Doherty on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at the age of 80 years.

He was born on June 7, 1931 in Belfast, Ireland. He immigrated to Calgary in February, 1953.

Bob apprenticed in the sheet metal trade at Harland and Wolf Shipbuilders (builders of the Titanic), working at the trade for several years before starting his own business – Stampede Sheet Metal. Bob started with the City of Calgary as HVAC Inspector in 1962, retiring as Supervisor in February, 1992. He formed many long lasting friendships in the trade over the years.

Bob’s happiest times were spent with Jean on their many retirement vacations to Oceanside – golfing, walking the beach, taking in the ocean, and enjoying the incredible sunsets. Many laughs and good times were shared with family and friends over the backyard barbeques, the Bridge table, Highwood Golf Course, and hosting family celebrations.

Bob will be forever remembered by his loving wife Jean of fifty-six years; sons Daniel (Marlene) and Bob (Margo); grandchildren, Meghan (Todd), Riley (Jai), Lara Jean, Kayla and Sean; two great-grandchildren Thomas and Aalyn; sister-in-law Joyce and family; brothers John and Brian; sisters Rosanna and Johana; and many nieces and nephews. Bob was very proud of his family, always supporting and encouraging their endeavors.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church (1600 Acadia Drive S.E.) on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church on Friday, May 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in Holy Family Cemetery, Eden Brook Memorial Gardens.
