Rob Doherty, of Calgary (formerly of Thunder Bay), passed away unexpectedly in a tragic accident on Saturday, May 19, 2012 in Saskatoon at 54 years of age.
Born to Alfred and Rose Doherty he was the third of four children. Rob was educated and raised in Thunder Bay, graduating from Confederation College with an Electronics Diploma going on to specialize in instrumentation for over thirty years. He was well known in the hockey community and played many hard games for the Fort William Hurricanes Hockey team and the Queensland Bombers in Calgary, as “El Toro”. As a child, he spent his days playing on the outdoor rink down the street from his house in the winter and in the summer fished with Unc every Sunday. Rob was a man who was beautiful in and out, who was kind and compassionate and lived his life to the fullest. He was a great dad, a loving husband, and an excellent cook. He was brilliant in his work. He was a fun loving man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and had a passion for warm beaches.
Rob is survived by his wife Val, son Kale (26), daughters Krista (24), Bianca (8), and Sofia (3). His brother Alf, wife Denise and family reside in Ottawa. His sister Suzann, husband Lawrence Mironsky and children Ilana and Lawson reside in Thunder Bay.
If you knew Rob, I ask that you hug your family, your loved ones and be kind to others. For without warning, your life can change in a second.
