It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father Tom Dixon, at the age of 53 years.
Tom was born December 1, 1961 in Calgary, Alberta. He was raised in Eden Valley and attended school in Longview, Alberta. Tom was an elite athlete. He loved playing hockey, baseball, and travelling the rodeo trail. Tom played minor hockey in Black Diamond, Jr. A hockey with the Hobbema Hawks, and was also a team member of the High River Flyers, and the Sarcee Seven Chiefs. He also served on the board of director for the Morley Jr. B Tomahawks; Tom strived and advocated to bring the team back to the community. He encouraged and supported the youth by managing the Tomahawks for several years, Tom was well known in the hockey community. Among the numerous sports he participated in rodeo was his all-time favorite. He was an all-around cowboy beginning in his early years Tom participated in the rough stock events and eventually found his passion in timed events. When Tom was not competing he was always in the arena giving a helping hand to the cowboys and cowgirls. He was known to many as a great mentor and coach within the rodeo arena. For many years Tom served as the president of the Indian Cowboy’s Rodeo Association (IRCA) which is one of the largest Indian rodeo associations in North America.
Tom was survived by his loving wife of 34 years Debbie; his children Buddie (Melissa), Sunni (Andre), Aimee (Chuck), Skilee, Lonnie and his baby girl Callie; his grandchildren Laren, Markus, Anthony, Jaylin, Strann, Stockton, Suree and Emeric; his brothers Bruce (Shelly), Darcy (Kathy); his sisters Diana (Myron), Teresa (Sheldon), Corrina (Gabriel), Tammy (Joey), Nancy and numerous adopted brother and sisters. He is also survived by his mother and father in-law Leroy and Harriet Heavy Runner. He was predeceased by his parents Don Dixon and Margret Runner
Wake Services will be held at the family’s residence (Morley, AB) on Thursday, March 5, 2015 and Friday, March 6, 2015. Funeral Services will be held at Bearspaw Youth Centre (Morley, AB) on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at the Dixon Family Cemetery (Morley, AB).
