DISTURNAL – Richard (Dick) Clifford

April 15, 1929 – August 23, 2011

Richard (Dick) Disturnal, husband of Catherine Ann Disturnal of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at the age of 82 at Southwood Hospice.

Dick was born in Sedgewick, AB. He studied geology at The University of Alberta. He moved to Calgary to start his career where he met and married his wife of 55 years.

Dick was a practising geologist and successful entrepreneur in the Alberta oil patch for many years. His belief in the fundamental principles of honesty, hard work, property rights and the free enterprise system together with his exemplary personal lifestyle has deeply influenced his family and friends.

Dick took up the sport of golf in his mid 50’s and pursued it with great passion. Through his business activities and his golfing he developed many important friendships. He has touched many lives and will be greatly missed.

Besides his wife, he is also survived by his children Bruce (Tracey), Jean (Preston) and John (Jill), and by his grandchildren; Tara, Tait, Bryn, Bevin, Tess and Tory. He is also survived by his sister Mary Ogle and nephew Richard Ogle. He was predeceased by his brother Lynn.

A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at The Glencoe Club (636 – 29 Avenue S.W., Calgary, AB) on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

  8. My sympathies and condolences to Catherine and family. Dick (along with Ron, John and John) was my first boss in the oil & gas industry back in 1978. I started as the receptionist and then worked at increasing more responsible jobs. Dick encouraged me to get my geology degree saying “just because you are a female doesn’t mean you can’t do geology”. Well, I followed his advice and I have never regreted it for an instant. He was a great influence in my life. Thanks Dick!
