DIETRICH, Deanne Joan

November 29, 1966– September 19, 2011

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.”

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Deanne Joan Dietrich, a sister, sister-in-law, aunt and great-aunt, niece and a friend, at the age of 44 years. Deanne fought a hard fight for three months but in the end quietly drifted off on September 19, 2011.

Deanne was born in Calgary and lived here most of her life. She truly loved and was loved by the little people in her life. They brought true joy to her. Deanne also loved her animals and it always broke her heart when she couldn’t keep them for whatever reason. Deanne also loved to cook whether it was her Christmas goodies for all the family or just cooking for her friends. Deanne also loved to shop but was very frugal and became a Dollar Store frequent shopper and loved the deals on Kijiji. Deanne cherished the time with her family and friends and had the biggest heart and was always trying to do for others before herself.

Deanne is lovingly remembered by her sister Cheryl (Bill); brother Don (Jacqueline; nephews, Tim (Carolyn), Ryan, Brad, Nicholas (Meg), Eric (Brandi), Erik (Brittany) and Gage; nieces, Jennifer (Mike), Amber (Aaron) and Tiffany; grandnephew Matt;, grandnieces Jadyn and Zoey; numerous aunts and uncles, cousins, and extended family that she had the opportunity to get to know. She was predeceased by her father, Kleon and mom, Joan.

At Deanne’s request no funeral service will be held, rather she asked that at a later date a picnic be held in her honour at Elbow Falls. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to The Calgary Humane Society, 4455 – 110th Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2C 2T7, Telephone: (403)205-4455, www.calgaryhumane.ca. Our family would like to give a heartfelt thanks to ALL the care givers of both the Rocky View and the Peter Lougheed Hospitals. You all treated Deanne with the utmost care and attention. You saw the person and not the patient and that was so incredibly comforting during this very difficult time.

In living memory of Deanne Dietrich, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  6. I have known Deanne since 1996 when we were living in Bar Homes. Over time we lost contact with each other, but somehow she found me and we started our friendship on again. I have seen Dee go from living in the Sunshine centre, to the drop in centre and then finally settling in Horizon 14 in the NW. When Deanne was able to move to her last place, she never knew she would have to deal with the mice population in her new living digs. Her and I would go to Walmart to buy the mouse traps, and the food, and set them up. There were times we thought we caught a few. Her and I decided to dump these critters in a big huge garbage can across the way, away from her building so they would not have an opportunity to return. Once I turned the box towards her and said, are you ready Dee? And she said, ready for what, and I said to have a look and see if there is one in there . . .she backed up away from me because she was so afraid it would jump out at her. I said, Aww Dee they are more scared of you than you are of them, heck I had one making his home on my battery in my van, when I lifted the lid it ran scurrying off, and ran past me and down onto the ground, I asked the mouse, where’s the fire? LOL

I am going to miss Deanne’s Awesome cooking, her giving me a hard time. She would buy nice things even if they were used and give them as gifts to my younger niece Emily, and even to me . . .it was the thought that counted. I can’t imagine her gone, but I know in my heart the memories will live on and we will see each other again someday.
