Elsie Diemert passed away peacefully and went to heaven on Monday April 30, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Elsie was born in Mapova, Alberta and raised on a farm north of Thorhild, Alberta. She grew up with humble beginnings on the farm; however there were many happy memories of fun and games with her siblings and picking every kind of berry you could enjoy. The best years of her life were being a mother raising her loving sons Brent and Bruce claiming that motherhood was more than she ever expected. She was a dedicated sports mom driving her kids to endless practices and games. She loved recounting stories of adventure with her young boys and how they were like ‘three peas in a pod’. Elsie was an independent woman and a strong advocate of hard work, education and a believer of ‘always doing the right thing’ and never taking the easy way out. Elsie was one of the original working moms and enjoyed her many years at Western Gas Marketing (TransCanada). Her tireless work ethic earned her numerous promotions. She considered education a privilege and attended a number of universities receiving several diplomas and her Bachelor of General Studies. Forever a tomboy, she loved sports, being outdoors, running, gardening and playing with her animals. Elsie was active in her retirement. She joined the TransCanada choir and enjoyed performing at company events; remained an active member of her church; was an avid reader and visitor of the library and enjoyed time with her beloved grand-children.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Brent (Laura), and Bruce (Elayna), grandchildren Ryan, Cole, Tess, Sarah, and Livia, her sisters Margaret, Doreen, Maureen, Kathleen, Pauline and Diane and brother Billy. Elsie was predeceased by her parents John and Annie Kowalchuk and brothers Fred and Peter.
