DICKSON, William “Brian”

October 5, 1940 – October 8, 2013

It is with much heartbreak that we announce that Brian passed away to embrace the heavenly angels above on October 8, 2013 at the age of 73 years.

Brian Dickson-gifted athlete- high school senior selected for an elite all star hockey team. He went on to Wyoming University with a football scholarship. After moving to Alberta- he won the Racketball championship for Alberta, as well as pitched for the CFCN Media Baseball Team.

Career wise, his first jobs were with Media- CFCN Television, and CHQR Radio. He owned a log home company for the majority of his years, building numerous log homes and resort properties throughout Canada, including the Cochrane Mall.

His senior years were selling RV’s which earned him his nickname from his grandchildren “Gampers who sells Campers”.

He loved nature during the boys early years in school. He resided near Bottrell, where he raised exotic pheasants-buffalo peacocks, chickens, cows, even a pet porcupine.

He never found it unusual to bring a new born calf into a bedroom basement after the mother rejected it. He never quite achieved incubating chicks which he spent much time pondering over.

His favorite hobby was gardening. He had 10 green fingers. Everything he touched blossomed. It wasn’t unusual to find Brian in the green house right at sun rise picking up all the baby stems with a toothpick from flowers that he’d planted from seed.

Brian loved his sons and their families unconditionally. He was most generous- always placing $5 in cards, even when they were 30. He would never pass up passing a pay telephone to check if any change was left in it. He had the biggest, kindest heart anyone could have.

He never missed one day without reading the Calgary Sun/Herald. He knew every Country in the world, all their politics and governments.

He had intelligence beyond wonder but always let me have my way- even when he knew I was wrong.

Good Man- if he could leave a message behind, what would it be?
Try and not make anyone’s life harder than it already is.

God watched all his steps and will bless him with the highest blessing in his highway in heaven.

His spirit will live with us daily and will be missed sorrowfully by his wife of 41 years, Gerry; his three sons and daughters-in-law, Ryan and Angela, Darren and Alycia, Mik and Laura; and his grandchildren Delia, Ryla, Jesse and Elise. We loved you dearly but you cannot come back, but we will meet you again someday.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Crowfoot Chapel (82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul (email national@ssvp.ca or website www.ssvp.ca)

In living memory of Brian Dickson, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Crowfoot Chapel, 82 CROWFOOT CIRCLE N.W. Telephone: (403) 241-0044.

  5. Leoncio V. Jaraiz :

    Dear Gerry, Ryan, and family,

Please accept my condolence at these moments, when you mourn the loss of Brian. I will remember him, always, smiling and having a kind word whenever he came to the CAB Building and I would run into him as I “flew up” the stairs to the SOC Centre. I am with you spiritually and regret I can not come to the Funeral Service as I am recovering from my “last” surgery a couple of weeks ago. Much love to you all always,

    Chito
