DICK, Melva

July 24, 1954 – Maryfield, Saskatchewan
January 12, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Melva Dick beloved wife of Brad Dick of Calgary, went to be with her Lord on January 12, 2015 at the age of 60 years.

Mel was our Princess, living in a household full of men. She loved life, her family, and friends; she put a memorable smile on many people’s faces. Mel was the epitome of a servant heart; whether it was having people over for a special meal or making sure that favourites were made for her guests. Her love for family and friends was shown through her loyalty and accommodating nature to make sure that everyone was taken care of even if it meant being an inconvenience for her. Mel was enthusiastic and dedicated in her work as a cosmetic marketing rep with L’Oreal. Her devotion and love for the Lord brought peace in the midst of the many hurdles she faced these past ten years.

Besides her loving husband Brad, Mel is survived by three sons and a daughter-in-law, Joel, Chad and Desdemona, and Jeffrey and two very special granddaughters, Leila and Mariah. She is also survived by her Dad, Ken Moore, three sisters and brothers-in-law, Gayle and Laurie Robinson of Saskatoon, Dawn and Greg Hockaday of Calgary, and Wendy and Hugues Kalousek of France; a brother and sister-in-law Randy and Sheri Moore of B.C; and many other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her mother, Merle Moore.

Funeral Services will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Melva Dick, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Deerfoot South, 12281 – 40th STREET S.E.. Telephone: 403-203-0525.

  3. Ken and Catherine Sheffield :

What a blessing to have known Melva! Your loving tribute to her brought back sweet memories of sharing meals in your home as part of Small Group, how she got Wes, through loving and unyielding encouragement, to eat lettuce, how deeply and sweetly she loved all her boys including Brad. We are full of mixed emotions – blessed by calling her friend, grief for you, joy at knowing she is with our Savior, Jesus. We are praying for you, Brad, and the boys and the Hockadays. We know you will deeply miss her.

  16. Kathy and John Bourgeois :

    Brad and Family,
Words cannot express how very sorry we are for your loss…Mel was a very special lady and our two families had some wonderful times together in Katy! I am so sorry that we lost touch over the years, but we never will lose those memories we have of Mel and your family. I still talk about “our friends from Canada” and some of the different sayings or wording!! (which I loved, by the way). I always loved the fact that I could just drop in on Mel anytime and she always made me feel so welcome….she could have easily gotten tired of my visits, but if she did, I never knew! She always had a warm smile and a glass of ice tea for me…and great conversation!! I’m so glad that “friends are friends forever if the Lord’s the Lord of them”. At this time, we pray God will give you’ll comfort, strength, and peace!
    Love and Prayers,
    Kathy and John Bourgeois

I never had the pleasure of meeting Mel but felt as though I knew her by the way that Brad talked about her any time we had the pleasure of seeing each other. We are all saddened when someone as special as Mel passes on to Heaven before we are ready, but I hope and pray that Brad and family can rejoice in the comfort of knowing that Mel no longer has to deal with pain that she has endured for so long. Take care my friend! Chuck
