Violet Marie Antoinette Dias passed away on Saturday, September 24th, 2005 in Calgary, AB after a brief illness at the age of 89 years.
Although profoundly deaf since early childhood, Violet was a remarkable, beautiful and intelligent lady. She was a patient, gentle, loving, nurturing mother who raised five sons on three continents. Violet was devoted to her nine grandchildren and she supported and shared in their lives over the years both in Canada and the United States.
Violet was born on January 17th, 1916 in Ajmer, India. She was the only daughter of Edith (nee D’Silva) and Thomas Moniz. Orphaned at the age of 3, Violet was brought up by her maternal grandmother and her Uncle Anthony D’Silva in Bombay where she met and married Dr. Vincent Dias and had five sons (much to her great regret no daughters).
Violet leaves behind a large and close family, five sons and four daughters-in-law, Vivian and Greta of Brampton ON, Vernon and Jane of Calgary, AB, Virgil and Terry of Thousand Oaks, CA, Valerian and Giselle of Victoria, BC, and Victor of Red Deer; her beloved grandchildren, Keith, Melanie, Michelle, Matthew, Michael, Kenneth, Angelina, Kristen and Emma; her aunts Olive D’Silva of Toronto and Irene Heredia of Reis Magos, Goa; and her brother-in-law Tom Pereira of Don Mills, ON.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (Corner of Northmount Drive & Northland Drive N.W.) on Wednesday, September 28, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. Avinash Colac, Presider.
