DEYELL, Irene Ethel (nee Edwards)

October 30, 1914 – February 2, 2013

Irene died peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2013 in her 98th year.

Beloved mother of Donna Waring (Geoff) of Australia and Gerry (Kathy), beloved grandmother to Deyel Fallows (John) and Lisa McLean (Ben) of Australia, Erin Bradford (Joseph) of Calgary, Cari Deyell Wurst (Andrew Wurst) of Denver, and Marc Deyell (Rebecca) of Vancouver. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bill, and brothers Bob and Wilf. She is also survived by her ten great grandchildren (Henry, Imogen, Kyra, Kayanne, Max, Gus, Aidan, Abby, Alice, and Olivia) all of whom were a great joy to her and they affectionately called her “Gigi”. Irene was born in Vancouver and only left when she moved to Calgary in 2005 to be closer to family. Irene overcame many obstacles in life and her perseverance and strength were ever present, even as her body began to fail her. Irene will be deeply and fondly remembered by her family and many good friends in Calgary, Vancouver and beyond.

At Irene’s request there will be no funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local animal shelter (no stray cat ever went unfed while Irene was on watch). Condolences may be forwarded through
