February 25, 2014 – Calgary, AB
Gerald (Gerry) Benoit DeWulf passed away on the evening of Tuesday, February 25, 2014 with his daughters by his side. Kidney cancer may have taken his life, but never his dignity, integrity, or his fierce love for family, especially his wife Bonny Beswick, his daughters Jerusha (Jeri) and Erinn, and his four grandchildren Tyler, Grady, Mitch and Danica.
Throughout the years, Gerry took his work in the Oil Patch seriously. Whether this was in the field (Wyoming and Southern Saskatchewan) or in the office (Calgary), he was respected, precise and demanding. He never met a sport he didn’t like, but his passions were slo-pitch, baseball and golf. He was devoted to his grandchildren and his eyes would light up with joy whenever he had the opportunity to play with them. He was truly a “papa” extraordinaire.
All of us, including Arne Larson and Murray Ledene (Erinn and Jeri’s husbands); five siblings Caroline (Steve) Miller, Gary (Kathy) DeWulf, Judy (Rino) Saccaro, Lorraine (Gerry) Gamble, and Debra (Doug) Laxton, will miss him terribly. He will also be remembered fondly by Polly, mother of Jerusha and Erinn, and many special nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Julien and Vera.
Memorial Services will be held at the Country Hills Golf Club (1334 Country Hills Blvd. N.W.) on Friday, March 7, 2014 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gerry’s name to either the Calgary Minor Softball Association www.calgaryminorsoftball.com or to Kidney Cancer Canada www.kidneycancercanada.ca . All donations will go towards research being conducted by Dr. Danny Heng at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre in Calgary. Danny is outstanding in his field of oncology and is a warm and wonderful man who supported us everyday- from beginning to end. We also want to especially acknowledge nurses Glenda and Ina, who treated us with compassion and always had smiles on their faces, along with Dr. Christine Elzinga. Also, thanks goes to the terrific people on Unit 57 and 46 who made his final days as comfortable as possible. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
