Shirley Denis beloved wife of James Denis of Calgary, passed away on July 24, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Shirley was born December 18, 1926 in Guelph, Wellington County, Ontario. She was very proud of her heritage, being a member of a United Empire Loyalist family. Shirley met James in Sudbury and in 1950 they were married. As James worked as a chemical engineer, they lived in Sudbury, Edmonton, Sarnia and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania coming to Calgary in 1976. Shirley was a very supportive, wife, mother and grandmother. She participated alongside her husband in the Rotary Club of Calgary activities and volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross. Shirley was a faithful member of St. Peters Anglican Church, serving on the Altar Guild. Shirley loved to sing at Rotary events and with her family. Most of all, Shirley’s family were her pride and joy.
Shirley is survived by her loving husband James; daughters Maureen, Marilyn and Margaret. Son-in-law Dave; Grandchildren Geoffrey, Adam, Sarah and Ryan; Sister Jacqueline; brother-in-law Ron; Brother William as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by daughter Miriam in 1988; her father John in 1975 and mother Evelyn in 1981.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Peter’s Anglican Church (903 – 75th Avenue S.W.) on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. A Private family graveside service to follow at Drumheller Cemetery at a later date. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.
