DEFOY – Ronald Charles

January 23, 1950 – April 15, 2010

Ronald Charles Defoy beloved husband of Roberta of Calgary, passed away on Thursday, April 15, 2010 at the age of 60 years.

Family was the most important aspect of Ron’s life. He was an avid Habs Fan from the age of seven, when he paid 25 cents to stand in the “nose bleeds” at The Forum. His greatest asset was his sense of humour and seeing the best side of everyone. Ron enjoyed travelling to Mexico for many years with Roberta, where he thought he was bilingual. He was a mentor to many people and was a best friend to all.

Ron was the best friend, high school sweetheart and husband to Roberta (Dan) for thirty-eight years. He was affectionately known as “Bear” to his two daughters, Jennifer (Darryl) and Amy (Sandy). Ron was very proud of his two grandchildren, Will and Kenzie and was an uncle to Benjamin, Shane and Jasmine. He will be remembered by his eight younger siblings. His “Calgary family”, Gammy, Erin, Marnie, Kelly, Robert, Kate and Dylan will miss their uncle Ron. Ron was predeceased by his parents Mary and Fernand Defoy.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, April 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to Canadian Tire Jumpstart, 2180 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON MYP 2V8 Telephone: 1-877-616-6600 www.canadiantire.ca/jumpstart/

In living memory of Ron Defoy, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

Roberta – I worked with Ron and you and I have only met a couple times, at Safeway while you were shopping and Jim and I stopped by your house while you were having a garage sale. I can’t begin to imagine the sorrow that you are your family are feeling at this time and we are so sorry for your loss. I know that there are no words that can make any of this make sense or take away your pain at this time. Ron will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. Who is going to remind me now weekly how much money I am wasting by being a Safeway shopper!!! We don’t really know each other but if there is ANYTHING you need at ANYTIME day or night, whether it’s just to go for a walk or go for coffee just because you need someone to talk to – PLEASE don’t hesitate to call me. 8. Karen Kolarova :

I worked with Ron for several years at the South office. In fact my desk was behind him and the baffle fell on him one day, despite this he was always happy and brought joy to all of us. His love for his family was something that could not go with notice as we heard stories about weekend garage saling adventures. He loved to make fun of us and tell us about his garage sale finds. Ron will always have a special place in my heart as I can still hear him calling me “little bus person” in his attempted Ukranian accent, as he used to tease me about bundling up to walk to the train in winter. I am truly sorry for this loss to your family of such a wonderful man.

  9. David Robertson :

    To Ron’s family,

I am so sorry for your loss. I was just a “little guy” by the time Ron left the family house. Unfortunately I have only a few memories of him while I was growing up. I guess that happens when you are the youngest of the family. I really wish things could have been different. Stay strong and know that he is resting in a better place.

    Jenn, Amy, Roberta, and Families,

I am so sorry to hear about your Dad’s passing. He is a great guy and must have been so proud to be a grandpa. I remember many hours with him carpooling to the pool and his love of hockey (the wrong team of course!). My thoughts and love are with you all in this difficult time,

    Tina

  12. Richard Phaneuf :

    Hi Roberta

I was truly saddened to hear of Ron’s passing. Ronny was truly one of the good ones. He went through a lot as a kid and it always struck that he never ever complained but put his head down and kept moving ahead. You could always count on him. He always took care of business and was inspiring to us guys who had things a lot easier.

With all of us moving around the country and such we didn’t get much chance to get together over the years but whenever we did it like was like not missing a beat. I guess the last time I saw Ron was at Jim’s mom’s funeral. ( She always had a soft spot for Ron). He was so proud of you and the kids and was telling me how lucky and happy he was. Just like him.

I know you and the kids will miss him greatly and that the hurt must be pretty bad right now. My prayers are with you that in time the pain resides and you can look back with a smile and be able to celebrate his life and your time together with joy.

My sincere condolences to you all.

    Richard Phaneuf

  14. Tanya Leopold :

I am shocked to hear of Ron’s passing. I worked with Ron in the south office for the 4 years I lived in Alberta. The obituary is spot on –Ron was a riot! I moved back to NS and he was the one and only that I kept in touch with, likely due to our Hants County connection. I’m still in sheer disbelief…it seems we were just exchanging jokes via e-mail.
I am so sorry for your loss…he will most definitely will missed.
