DAVIS, William “Bill” Daniel

October 14, 1925 – September 21, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother, William (Bill) Daniel Davis on Friday September 21, 2012 at the age of 86.

William, better known as Bill, was born in High River, Alberta on October 14, 1925 to Daniel and Lena Davis, the third of four sons. His many accomplishments include serving in the Navy as an Able Seaman from 1943-1946. He was also one of the first Presidents of the Parkdale Community Association. Bill logged many miles every month as a traveling salesman with Scheaffer Pen, and later Corona Jewelry, until his retirement in 1990. He was awarded “National Salesman of the Year” several times from both companies. Bill enjoyed an active retirement and spent many winters traveling to Laughlin, NV with his wife and best friend of 33 years, June Davis. One of Bill’s true passions was golfing, particularly at the Turner Valley Golf and Country Club.

Bill was honoured to be the father of his four children and grandpa to six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He will be lovingly remembered by his sons Ross (Jan) Davis, Robb (Cathi) Gunn and daughter Cheri Boyd, and all of his grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his parents Daniel and Lena, son Brian in 1984 and first wife Jean in 1976, as well as his brothers Ern, Reg and Cliff.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Forward condolences through Bill battled cancer for an amazing thirty-eight years, always facing it with a positive attitude. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to Southwood Hospice or the Canadian Cancer Society.

In living memory of Bill Davis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.

  2. I lived in Calgary for 30 years, and One of my closest friends, I am proud to say, was Bill Davis. I guess I knew this day would come , and with a heavy heart, I won’t be able to talk to him, or play golf with him any more !!! So , I will just say, rest in peace my friend, and maybe we will have a game together again someday. I will miss you !!! Doug

So sad to read that Bill the last of my Great Aunt Lena’s sons has passed away. It has been a dream of mine to one day come and visit the family since I met Cliff and Yvonne when they came to stay with us in England in the 1960s. I would love to make contact with the family.
