DAVIS, Derek Blain

April 7, 1964 – Calgary, AB
September 8, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Our beloved Derek passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 8, 2013 at the age of 49 years. He was the loving father of Tyler and Tyler’s partner Brandie.

Derek never failed to tell others how proud he was of his intelligent and caring son in university. Derek was a devoted son to his mother Maureen and his best friend and father, Butch (deceased). Derek cherished his brother and sister-in-law Chris and Lindsay, along with their children, Carly, Jaxen, Marcus and Justin; as well as his uncle Grant; Aunt Lorraine; and cousins Kim and Ariel. Derek will forever be missed by his loving partner and soul mate Sheila Pepper. Derek leaves behind his many life-long friends and neighbours of North Haven. Derek was renowned for being the owner of Big D’s Smokehouse at the Calgary Farmer’s Market. To his cherished customers, he was known simply as Big D. Derek valued every colleague and client that enjoyed Big D’s outstanding barbeque. Derek had the biggest heart and gave everything he had to care for the people in his life. He will be profoundly missed by all those he knew and loved.

Condolence Messages

  1. Nancy and Lou Picone :

On our usual Saturday trip to the Calgary Farmer’s Market today brought much sadness. We loved everything prepared by Derek. I would call and he would have ribs or his fabulous beef brisket ready for Lou to pick up. I was also always impressed because he knew our names. We extend our deepest condolences to all those dear to him.. He will always be remembered in our hearts.
