DARCY, Barry

December 1, 1941 – Saskatoon, SK
March 14, 2017 – Okotoks, AB

With some regret and with some sadness, I wish to announce that I have moved on. I “moved on” many times in my life, had many very interesting jobs and met many wonderful people, learning a lot about life in the process.

I was able to travel the world, from the time I was a “pup” until now. By far, the happiest times of my life have been with the loves of my life…48 years with my incredible wife Janet, and delightful years with my beautiful “ray of sunshine” granddaughter, Julia. Unforgettable experiences with my son Ryan and great times with our “inherited” dog, Jack have made me “proud to be dad”. Without them, I am sure you would have been reading this much sooner.

I do wish to thank, with all my heart, all my friends, relatives and neighbours, who were always ready to help with both physical and mental support and encouragement. I can also not say enough about the hard working, dedicated and just plain wonderful doctors, nurses and staff and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. Special gratitude to Dr. Ball, Dr. Ruether, Dr. Pickering, and especially to my personal doctor, Dr. Chi.

I have requested that no service or memorial be held. Stand instead on a hill…as the sun sets, and marvel in the sky, the wind against your skin, and the beauty of the living land around you. I tried to capture some of that in my paintings…I wish I could have done more. I thank you all for the life you gave me. It was good.

Barry also leaves behind his dear sister Sandra (Ed); brother, Rob (Travis); dear cousins, sister and brothers-in-law and their families, as well as Julia’s mother and extended Boszormenyi family.

A Celebration of Barry’s Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society that gave Barry exceptional, compassionate care. P.O. Box 274, Okotoks, AB, T1S 1S1, Telephone: (403) 995-4673, www.countryhospice.org. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

Condolence Messages

  1. Janet and Family : I am so sorry for your loss . I for one will always think of Barry as Uncle Barry. I am thankful for the presence he had in my life from father’s day picnics in the early 80’s, Little bear Lake(where I caught my first fish ) , to fishing trips up at Charles lake . He filled a room with kindness and warmth and I can hear his kind hearted laugh in my mind. Barry will be in my thoughts for life .

    Janet and family:
We are so sorry for your loss. What a wonderful obituary. To have lived such a great life and be thankful for so much brings a smile to our lips. Yes, I will stand on a hill and let the sun and wind envelope my body and I will think of Barry and be happy. As well, each time I go to the Cancer Clinic in Regina, I will think of him and draw strength from his words. Although we have not seen you and Barry for a long time, I still remember the first time we met in Calgary with Gene and Sharon. We had so much fun at your place – skating on the lake, and hot chocolate around the fire after. You both made us feel so welcome. May all the wonderful memories you have with Barry make you smile and ease the pain in your heart. Sending you love and Hugs. Cheryl and Gerry Miller, Moose Jaw

  9. Lex and Sue Herron :

    Dear Janet and family,
It was good to be able to talk with you and to provide our condolences personally.
However, what was not said was how much I treasured the times Barry and I had together, canoeing on the Bow River, collecting trees for our landscaping, the parties and of course our friendship. Barry was kind, helpful and a true friend.
Though our paths diverged over the latter years the renewal we experienced during your recent visit made me realize how fortunate I am to have known Barry. He will forever be in our thoughts.
