Neva Levada Damery passed away peacefully on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Santuari Hospice in Calgary.
Born on November 10, 1922 in Fort McLeod, AB, Neva grew up on a ranch in the Porcupine Hills and later in Fort McLeod, both areas she dearly loved.
She was predeceased by her husband Alfred (Freddie) Damery in October 1987. Neva was a loving mother to Dianne (Curt) of Casper, WY, Jack (Denise) of Tamsworth, ON, Linda (Jim) of Nakusp, BC, Barbara (Gordon), Kathy (Cal), and Peggy (Mark), all of Calgary.
Neva’s life was enriched through her love of twelve grandchildren, their spouses and seventeen great grandchildren, to whom she espoused her guidance and values. Her life revolved around her family and friends, and she cared for them deeply. She appreciated nature and loved to be outdoors whenever possible. Neva was active in the church and was generous to those less fortunate. She traveled to Honduras in 1988 to help Salvadorans displaced by war. She was instrumental in initiating Pastoral Care at Parkdale United church, and volunteered for the Mental Health Association, Mustard Seed, Inn from the Cold and supported Project Ploughshares.
She will be dearly missed by all of her family & friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, April 29, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Neva’s family would like to thank all physicians and staff of Santuari Hospice, Unit 52 and Unit 39 at the Peter Lougheed Centre for their care and compassion. If friends so desire, donations in Neva’s honour may be made to Project Ploughshares, Calgary Women’s Emergency Shelter, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta.
