DALY – Janet Patricia

June 19, 1957 – June 21, 2010

It is with great sadness that we announce Janet’s passing, after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer.

She was lovingly cared for at home by her husband Darryl Lang. Janet’s vibrant spirit will be forever cherished by Darryl, her sons, Bradley and Patrick Christie, her parents Bob and Sheila Daly, her sister Shannon Daly (Lowell Westersund), nephew Ryan Algar, Darryl’s daughters and grandchildren, extended family members and innumerable friends.

Janet was born in Calgary and attended Earl Grey, Rideau Park and Western Canada High Schools before graduating from U of C with a Physical Education degree. Janet loved being physically active and inspiring others with her passion. She worked for many years at the Glencoe Club and Bow Valley Club as a fitness instructor and personal trainer. She was an outdoor girl who loved hiking, biking and skiing in her beloved Rocky Mountains, and walking on sandy tropical beaches. Janet was happiest when surrounded by friends: her hiking or snowshoeing groups, or the Wild Women of Wildwood. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to support Brad and Pat who are riding a tandem bike in the Ride to Conquer Cancer this weekend (www.conquercancer.ca, 1-888-624-2453). A Celebration of Janet’s Life will take place at the Glencoe Club on Monday, June 28, 2010 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Please wear casual clothes and bright colours, which Janet loved.  Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Janet Daly, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

  38. Keith Fewster :

My deepest sympathy to Darryl and and Janet’s family at the loss of your beloved Janet. She fought courageously and continued to live on her own terms during her ordeal. I know that you did everything humanly possible Darryl to love and care for Janet over the last year. I only met Janet once at Karen’s and her dynamic personality and love of life were evident to me from that first moment. I’m sorry I was unable to attend the celebration of Janet’s life earlier this week but you were all in my thoughts and prayers.

Darryl, you will need time to grieve and mourn your loss but when the time is right, I would be pleased to talk and or meet with you about the grieving and mourning process. If and when you would like to do that, please call me either at home (403 282 8353) or on my cell (403 8520546). I have learned a lot about the resources that are available for support in these situations since my wife Christine’s death last year.

    With love and blessings,

My sincerest sympathy goes out to you, Janet’s family.

Janet’s enthusiasm for being outdoors and being active was infectious. I know her from participating in snow-shoeing and remember feeling instantly impacted by her generosity and exuberance. She was so welcoming to me and my friend, and especially my dog, and we shared a lovely stroll through Earl Grey together. I will fondly carry the memory of her positive energy, the excitement she shared about healthy living and her unadulterated passion for the love of being outside doing what she loved. What a wonderful woman and a true inspiration.
