CYFRA, Henry

October 26, 19 – January 10, 2013

Henry, beloved husband of Frances of Calgary, passed away on January 10, 2013 at the age of 93.

Henry was born in Somogy, Hungary, on October 26, 1919. He immigrated with his wife, Frances, and children to Canada in 1951. In May, 1952, the Cyfra’s moved to Symons Valley near Calgary where Henry and Frances resided since. A farmer all his life, Henry was devoted to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought him particular joy, even as this once physically powerful man diminished in strength because of age and brief illness. Though the pulse of his heart weakened over the past few months, the enormity of his love never failed.

Besides his cherished wife of 65 years, Henry is survived by his daughters; Elona Malterre (Mark Lowey), Kathryn (Julius) Kiss; son Emery (Maureen) Cyfra; son-in-law, Emmanuel Malterre; grandchildren Alexandra Malterre, Rebecca (Glenn) Worm, Richard Cyfra, Carolyn Cyfra, Elizabeth Cyfra, Konrad (Nicole) Kiss, Vincent (Jessie) Kiss; and great-grandchildren Colby Worm, Tucker Worm, Liliana Kiss and Juniper Kiss.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church (819 – 13th Avenue S.W.) on Friday, January 18, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made to the Fanning Centre – Neuro Rehab (722 – 16 Avenue, N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6V7, Phone : 403-230-6900)

In living memory of Henry Cyfra, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

  5. We were very sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a parent is never easy, even though he lived to an advanced age. Your parents were both very much liked and respected by my parents, Emory and Lynn Jackson, formerly of Balzac, who have both passed on. Please share our thoughts of condolence with your mom.

My sympathy goes out to you and your family. I used to grind feed for Henry many years ago with my old 660 International tractor and saw him frequently at the Auction Mart in Olds. I had a tremendous respect for him, as he was always caring and kind to me. My thoughts are with you at this time.
