Condolence Messages

  1. Launie was my dear friend for 35 years. We lived together for about 7 years back in the 1980’s. Although we drifted apart
in later years, I will never forget what a great friend he was. I am deeply saddened at the news of his passing and my heart goes out to his family and to our mutual friends.
    Love you man.
    Ken.

  3. Steve Payne :

I first met Launie around 1968 when my family moved to Kingsland. Launie, Steve Butler, Mike Chellew and I were the terror of the neighborhood on our chopped bicycles. Launie always had a very magnetic personality and his circle of friends grew quickly. My best memory of Launie in his younger years was man could he catch a football! He also loved to float down the river and hang out at Stanley Park.
As we grew older Launie loved to go to rock concerts and parties. I remember his great laugh and enthusiasm. Launie also loved the Stampede.
Launie also got me my first job on the rigs. I remember he was very strong and a hard worker.
Launie and I lost touch in the late ’80s, but whenever we did run into each other he had a big smile and a great story of his latest adventures.
    Love and Peace Brother. Steve.

  4. Dan & I have lots of great stories but my favorite is when I was in the hospital after having my first baby (Morgan) and Launie and Bill showed up to visit (with a huge plant) and the nurse informed him no visitors except immediate family. Launie never one to be told no-didn’t miss a beat and informed the nurse that there was a discrepancy of who the father was and in he marched for a visit. I loved hearng him recall this story to Morgan over the years and that plant lived for 25 years:) our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.

  5. I met Launie the summer of 1978. In that respect, I went to visit some mutual friends of ours that were sharing a SW Calgary house with him. Because Launie was away working on the “rigs” I had not been introduced to him. Anyway, Launie came home from work in the middle of the afternoon and startled me, when he came bursting through the door sporting a serious chemical burn to his face and had no front teeth. I was laying on the communal living room couch, drinking cold beer, while listening to an excellent collection of classic rock albums (which as it turned out were mostly his). That said, when I saw Launie I hollered out to him “who the @#%* are you! He, in turn, hollered back at me, who the $%?& are you – I live here! I then, in turn, told him who I was and that there was cold beer in the fridge, and that there was one in there with his name on it. He laughed and said, all right, cool, do you play crib! We became friends right then and there. His friendship is one I will always cherish. I found a kindred spirit in Launie – which is a rare and precious thing – as it only happens a few times in one`s lifetime. I loved Launie and am proud to have counted him as one of my best friends. Needless to say, I will always remember him as, amongst many other things, as a kind hearted and good natured man. Launie, thank you for the many blessings you have brought into my life. I will always remember you and miss you while I am still on this planet. I look forward to the day when we meet again….
