CUNNINGHAM, Phyllis (nee Thompson)

February 8, 1920 – Birmingham, England
July 3, 2014 – Didsbury, Alberta

It is with great sorrow that we, the family of Phyllis Cunningham, announce her passing. Phyllis peacefully passed away Thursday evening July 3, 2014.

Her spirit is carried on by her six children, Dianne, Marilyn (Mel), Bob (Marg), Ken (Deb), Pat (Larry), Lloyd (Belinda); her sister Doreen; sister-in-law Betty as well as her twelve grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. Phyllis has been reunited with her loving husband of sixty-four years and best friend David Cunningham and was predeceased by her sister Kay, brother Bernard, father Harry, mother Hanna and her grandson David.

Phyllis was born in Birmingham, England and immigrated to Canada when she was four months old where she settled in Hardyville, Alberta with her family until marrying David in 1945. Once married, Phyllis and Dave resided in Lethbridge and Calgary, Alberta. She leaves behind a legacy of love, grace and honor. She touched the lives of everyone with her kind and caring heart, her life was full of beautiful moments and she appreciated all aspects of her life; she possessed a contagious smile and a wonderful sense of humor.

Known for her sweet and gentle demeanor and her undying love of “her” Calgary Flames, Phyllis also enjoyed knitting, playing the organ, gardening, feeding the birds in her backyard, and had an ability to bake the most amazing things. Phyllis adored her large family – spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews which warmed her heart. She had a unique gift to recognize and appreciate the talents of others and to make them feel loved and lifted by her presence. Her beautiful smile and generous heart filled her home with love, fun, family and friends.

She was a blessing to all who shared in her presence and her passing leaves a hole in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
