CULP, Gloria Jean

May 29, 1940 – Flin Flon, Manitoba
May 15, 2017 – Calgary, Alberta

Gloria Jean Culp passed away on May 15, 2017 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 76. She was surrounded by her loved ones to the very end.

Gloria was born in Flin Flon, Manitoba on May 29, 1940 to parents Harvey and Jean Holman. In 1948, the Holman’s were among the first pioneers of Devon, Alberta, Canada’s new model town where Harvey and his brother owned and operated Holman Brothers Grocery Store and Jean taught school. Gloria remained in Devon until she moved to Medicine Hat, Alberta where she attended Nursing School and threw strike-out pitches with her nurse’s fastball team. In 1966, Gloria settled in Calgary with her young children and worked at the Foothills Hospital before starting as Nurse/Receptionist at Dr. Robert Wintemute’s office where she remained until retirement. Post retirement, Gloria enjoyed many trips to Yuma, Arizona and her 3 C’s (curling, choir and cribbage). She also met and married the love of her life, Larry, and together they built a life of laughter, adventure and countless new friends.

Gloria will be dearly missed by Larry and his family; her children, Lori Droppo and Michael Massini (Marj); her five grandchildren, Katie (Kevin), Kayla, Jennifer, Carole and Nicholas, and her great grandson, Carson.

Gloria’s family would like to thank her doctors, the AHS Palliative Home Care team and the Tom Baker Cancer Centre Volunteer Drivers for their assistance and compassion; we couldn’t have done it without you.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, May 19, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at Chapel of the Bells.
