CROWE, Em (nee Shawcross)

April 15, 1927 – Regina, Saskatchewan
March 2, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

Mom passed away Sunday morning, March 2, 2014 at the age of 86 at home, sitting comfortably in her favourite chair, a cup of tea by her side, and her dog at her feet. She would have liked that…

Deeply and Forever missed by her children: Bruce, Hazel, Glenn, Craig and her dog Rufus. Three grandchildren: Heidi, Chelsey and Malcolm. Em was predeceased by her parents: James and Annie Shawcross (nee Gendall); two brothers: Ronald Gendall Shawcross and James Verdun Shawcross; and her sister Adina Snideman.

Born in Regina. After graduation Em moved to Vancouver with her father, becoming an executive secretary at the RBC. Her married life took her to North Vancouver where her four children were hatched. Operetta was one of her loves; she enjoyed singing and was in many productions in the chorus there. Mom had a beautiful voice. She participated wholeheartedly in all her children’s extracurricular activities – many soccer games and practices, hiking, camping, and became a Guide leader.

In 1969 we all moved to Red Deer. Em got back into the working world as a secretary at a trucking firm. Then a year later we moved south to Calgary. In Calgary Em once more entered the workforce as a secretary at Kerby Centre, WCB, Rogers Rentals. And of course volunteering again: becoming a soccer coach for the boy’s team (always a pioneer for women), and a Scout leader, then a Guide Commissioner. Nothing made her happier than watching her garden and her children grow and prosper. And as we all know, baking and cooking for everyone made her happy too.

Mom will be truly missed by all who knew her, she was the light in our day. We miss you Mom!

No Flowers please (even though Mom loved them). Donations to The Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation 403-946-2361 www@aiwc.ca OR the Salvation Army would please her. Thank you.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S, Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Saturday, March 8, 2014 at 2:30 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Em Crowe, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Park Cochrane by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

Em Crowe, a wonderful caring person who was always there for her loved ones, she had four amazing children who she single handedly
raised to excellent, kind adults, just as she was. Although I didn’t know her as I would have liked, I know these things to be true, all of her children are my first cousins to the North. May you all find solace and peace in knowing she lived a long, happy life.

  6. Helen Bugno and Don DiBenedetto :

Em, a true friend and beautiful neighbour, a shining light on 29th Avenue will be so missed. She brought joy to our family and Oreo, our dog. Em and Tar were Oreo’s first best friends. The children, all adults now, will always remember her wave and beautiful smile from her front window as they walked home from school. We treasure her friendship and will feel her presence around every flower, tree, bird, and animal on our street. You made our street special, Em. We will always remember you with love. Helen and Don, Tara, David, Daniel and Oreo.
