  7. I am a much better person from knowing Gordon, I had the honor of spending time with him while I was helping write Edwin Crane’s book of his life. Gordon and family gave me time and many of their family photo’s in the research of Edwin’s life. Gordon was the first cowboy I got to know, he was a straight shooter in his life, you always knew where Gordon stood on a issue. He was many things but first and foremost he was a family man, his wife Marie, his children and many grandchildren were at the top of his list, but he still had time for friends and any old cowboy who wanted to talk horses .. our condolences to all the family, Ken and Bev Simms.

I am saddened by the news of the Passing of the Greatest Boss and man I ever knew, a great friend to all he met, even this Crazy Long haired white man as he often called me, running his School Buses from 1992-1997 R.I.P. Gordon David Crowchild.

  13. Gordon was a good friend to my father and mother. It is ironic that he and my mother should die on the same day in the same year of their lives and then have funerals on the same day as well. On behalf of the Pippus family, I offer our deepest sympathy to the Crowchild family. Gordon was a wonderful man. I will remember him from his visits to my father’s shop when I was a young man and from his attendance at his grandson’s hockey games when it was my privilege to be their coach. May God’s grace sustain you all in the valley of the shadow of death.

  16. Our condolences to Maria and family. Our family have shared many wonderful visits with them. Gordon was a super cowboy and was a great role model for the young cowboys. I have known Gordon for close to 40 years and shared many visits with him at the Calgary Stampede. He loved competing in the Wild Horse Race. One day when he was past retiring age he told me he was not going to compete any more. Next day I looked in the infield and he was out in the race as usual as the ear man, I said Gordy I thought you quit. He said Frank it’s in my blood when I hear the Claxton (horn)sound I Just have to be in the chutes and take part . I will miss our visits and stories but I know that he will be listening for the horn and ready to go. Rest easy my friend.
Frank Sisson and all my family.

  20. BIshop Rod Andrews :

I was deeply saddened to learn of Gordon’s death. Gordon was a true leader. He set a great example for us all. He was Rector’s Warden when I arrived at St. Barnabas Church in 1966. He welcomed me and invited me to attend the All Indian Rodeo Banquet at the Bull Head Hall a few days later. In 1966 men sat on one side of the church and women on the other. At a church meeting early in 1967 Gordon said “I want to sit with my wife like white people do” and it happened. It was a very important change. I will never forget how Gordon accomplished that change with kindness and gentle persuasion. I will miss Gordon. My sympathy to Maria and all the family.

    To the Crowchild family
Sorry to hear of Gordons passing. We are in Mexico and heard the sad news. Our sincere condolences. Another one of the pillars of the western way of life is gone. Sarcee will be quieter. The Bible at John 5 verse 28 says “The hour is coming when all those in the memorial tombs will hear my voice and come out.” We and Grand Saddlery will miss you

I worked in the Tsuu Tina Health Centre with the foot doctor and always enjoyed visiting with Gordon and Maria – loved hearing his rodeo stories and his stories of life in the early days. He was a true cowboy with such a gentle soul – always looked forward to seeing him. My deepest sympathies to Maria and family.
