January 1, 1927 – July 10, 2012
Jean Patricia Cox passed away peacefully on July 10, 2012 at the age of 85 years at the Chinook Care Centre where she had resided since 2007.
Jean was born to Earl Jay and Edna Miller, January 1, 1927 on the family farm near Elrose, Saskatchewan, joining older sisters, Rita and Beth. She was always a lover of animals and quite often would talk about the family dog, Bing. Jean completed her high school education at the age of seventeen, and went on to Robertson Secretarial College in Saskatoon. Jean worked for several firms in Saskatoon and met Rowland “John” Cox during this period of time. Jean and Johnny were married on January 24th, 1948. When Johnny was transferred to Swift Current, Saskatchewan Jean embarked on her 34 year career with Mobil Oil Canada attaining the position of Senior Executive Secretary. She worked for Mobil in Regina as well and eventually was transferred into the head office in Calgary, Alberta. Both Jean and Johnny were very happy to make their permanent home in Calgary; they loved the mountains and did a lot of hiking. Theirs was a true love story and they were married for fifty five years. Jean was highly intelligent; she was a great reader of literature, had a marvellous sense of humor and always gave good advice. She was a wonderful and caring friend to Carole Kowpak both at Mobil and after retirement. Jean retired on January 1, 1989, and she and Johnny had several very good years before his health failed. Jean lost her beloved Johnny in October 2002.
Jean is survived by her sister-in-law, Marguerite Cox and many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her sister, Rita and husband Lyman Beedle, sister Beth her first husband Don Buhr and second husband, Jack Smith; brother-in-law, Albert Cox and sister-in-law, Sylvia Symington and her husband.
