Corson, John Edward

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Edward Corson of Calgary on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the age of 87 years. A true Albertan, Edward was born to Mary Ann (Hummel) and John William Corson in Big Valley, AB, and raised in Calgary. He was the eldest of six children. Edward served in the RCAF during WWII in England, where he met the light and love of his life, Grace. They were married in Leeds, England, in 1946, and settled in Calgary to raise their family, which eventually grew to eight children. Together Dad and Mom created a nurturing and loving home for their family, demonstrating the true meaning of love, respect, devotion and sacrifice through their actions. Dad will be remembered for his quiet faith, unwavering patience and wonderful sense of humour. He was employed in the wholesale plumbing and heating industry, retiring after 40 years of dedicated service. During their retirement Dad and Mom were able to do some traveling – to England, Hawaii and Mexico, but Dad was most comfortable at home. Besides Grace, his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Edward will be dearly missed by his children, Sandra, Brian (Debi), Carol, Glenda (Terry) Gouliquer, Bill (Deborah), John (Cindy), Donna (Ray) Messner, Wendy (Greg) Mayer; seventeen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Gordon (Helen), Bob (Kay) and sister Agnes Jones. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Cliff and Ken; and son-in-law Terry Midgley. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church (640 – 19th Avenue N.W.) on Thursday, April 9, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through A special thank you to the palliative care team and nursing staff of Unit 32 at Foothills Hospital, who helped to make our Dad as comfortable as possible in his final days. In living memory of Edward Corson a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH Telephone: (403) 276-2296.
