CORNS, Bernice (Bernie) Agnes

December 15, 1912 – Weyburn, Saskatchewan
February 14, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta

Bernice Corns passed away at the Beverly Care Centre on February 14, 2015 at the age of 102 years.

Bernie was raised on a farm near Weyburn, SK and later in Moose Jaw, SK. There she met and married her loving husband Bert Corns where they raised their three children. In 1942, Bernie joined the workforce, as part of the war effort, by going to work at a manufacturing facility where she worked alongside the aircraft mechanics and technicians building Cessna aircraft for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

Bernie and Bert moved their family to Calgary in 1948. Bernie continued to work in retail until retirement after which she and Bert enjoyed their family including many trips to California where her son, Herb and his family settled.

Bernice is survived by her children Herb (Betty) Corns, Marie (Garey) Cameron and Don Corns; beloved nieces and nephews, her sixteen grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Margaret (Ken) Lidster. She was predeceased by her husband Bert; her brothers Gilbert, Joe and Cyril, and by her sisters Marie, Eileen, Genevieve, and Cathy.

The family would like to thank the Pastoral Team at Holy Spirit Church and Woodbine Unit at the Beverly Care Centre for their loving care.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (10827 – 24th Street S.W.) on Friday, February 20, 2015 at 11:00a.m. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Condolences may be forwarded through

  4. Bernie was the sweetest aunt and a wonderful sister to my mom, Cathy. Thank you aunt Bernie (or Bambie as my mom called you) for all you did for her.
    I remember mom telling us the story of Bernie giving mom her dessert pudding because, “I just don’t like it”. Ha!
    I also remember Bernie’s talent as a children’s clothing buyer when she worked in the retail industry.
