COOPER, Ramona Evelyn (nee Lovering)

May 16, 1932 – Orillia, Ontario
April 14, 2014 – Calgary, Alberta

After a long and courageous battle with cancer, Ramona passed away at the Carewest Sarcee Hospice in Calgary.

Ramona was born in Matchedash Township, Simcoe County, Ontario, to Joseph and Hilda Lovering. She came to Alberta in 1953 “to seek her fortunes”. She had a successful career in banking and finance beginning as a teller with BMO in Orillia, Ontario. Career highlights included being Head Cashier at Sears Canada (Edmonton, 1957-1961); Assistant Manager at the Alberta Teacher’s Association Credit Union (Edmonton, 1965-1969); owner of Creelaine Wool (Calgary, 1975-1978); and General Manager of the Calgary Transit Credit Union (1981-1998, when she retired).

Ramona was an avid reader and loved sewing and painting. Her favourite music genres were classical, rock, and blues. She also loved nature and animals and enjoyed the company of many beloved pets over the years.

Ramona is survived by Bruce, her husband, best friend, and partner of nearly sixty years; daughter Donna Christensen (Ole); son Cameron; brother David Lovering (Sonia); sisters-in-law, Lexi Lovering of Regina, SK and Lois Lovering; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Arnold Lovering and Brian Royce Lovering.

A Memorial Service will be held at Highwood Lutheran Church (419 Northmount Drive N.W.) on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Ramona’s honour may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. Ramona’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses, nursing assistants, doctors and staff at the Hospice for their compassionate care.

In living memory of Ramona Cooper, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH, Telephone: 403-276-2296.

  13. Bruce Kitchen :

To all of Ramona’s family and friends I wish to express my sorrow for your loss. She is my eldest first cousin though I only saw her on a couple of occasions. She was the first person I ever knew, who with husband Bruce, flew back to Orillia for Christmas one year at 600 mph. It was an amazing tale of early jet travel to my young ears then, despite its being so “common” now. She’ll be sorely missed. God bless you all.
