COOK, Cecelia Margretta

July 11, 1936 – Calgary, AB
January 17, 2015 – Calgary, AB

With deep sadness, the family of Cecelia M. C. Cook announces her peaceful passing on Saturday January 17, 2015 at the Rockyview Hospital.

Born in Calgary, Alberta on July 11, 1936, she was the only child of her adored father Stanley and mother Irene Green. Predeceased by her parents, the love of her life, husband William Cook, and son-in-law George Stawn, she is survived by son Mark Fox, and “her girls”, daughters Christine (Deb) Thomas, Maple Ridge, BC and Kathleen Stawn, Calgary, AB, and Bill’s children: Suzanne, Joanne, Alan and Louise and their families.

Mom was a woman who always worked hard, helping her husband run a successful business and taking over after his passing in 2004. As a couple, and with their family, almost always including a Maltese terrier, they constantly explored the Rocky Mountains they loved: skiing, hiking, canoeing and backpacking. Together with extended family members they built a second home in Radium, BC, which became a showpiece, with amazing gardens and features. They were also enthusiastic world travelers who created lasting friendships wherever they visited. She was a lifelong lover of creating crafts of all sorts, with materials of all kinds, be it knitting, needlepoint, crocheting, counted cross stitch, or sewing. Her hands were always busy and her work was flawless. In her later years, she was very well known for the gorgeous quilts she made for loved ones. Cozy bedding and works of art too beautiful to act as mere blankets grace the homes of family and friends, and anyone fortunate enough to own one realizes how great a treasure they possess.

A Celebration of Life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Park Memorial, 5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Friday, January 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through No flowers by request. If desired, donations to the Alberta Lung Association would be gratefully accepted by the family on Mom’s behalf.

In living memory of Cecelia Cook, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Park Memorial, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone: 403-243-8200.

Condolence Messages

  1. Remembering Cecile…

We always had “our girls lunch” and a shopping spree (mostly for craft supplies) when she and Bill came once a year to Casper, Wyoming to visit for a couple of nights. Of course, we all went out to dinner one night and stayed home for the other. Fond memories.

My condolences to the whole family.
