Contardo, Albino Giulio

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Albino Contardo of Calgary, at his home on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the age of 97 years.

Albino was born January 22, 1912 at Valvasone, PN, Italy and married Velia Lenarduzzi in Tripoli, Libya on March 30, 1935. Albino worked throughout Europe from the age of twelve until he was called to WWII military duty in 1940. He spent seven and a half years in service, including military duty and internment in a concentration camp.

Albino immigrated to Canada in 1951. The first years were difficult but with perseverance and tenacity he worked as a cement finisher until his retirement in 1977. During his retirement years, Albino and Velia traveled extensively to Italy, Canada and to warm climates.

He is survived by three daughters, Lilian Romanzin, Norma and son-in-law Angelo Bizzotto and Carla Nicola; six grandchildren, Susan and Neil Graham, Aldo and Shauna Romanzin, Dan and Patty Bizzotto, Julie and Michael Vine, Franco Nicola (Matil), Antonio Nicola (Krista); and eight great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law Pinuta Lupieri of Trail BC and relatives in Canada and Italy. Albino was predeceased in 2005 by Velia, his wife of seventy years.

Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers and Tributes at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) today, April 29, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian and English Catholic Church (1714 – 14th Avenue N.E.) on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow in “St. Joseph’s section” at Queen’s Park Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice. Special thanks to Dr K. Savoia, nurse Noreen Grant, and Anita and Yvonne (his live-in caregivers) for the care, love, and understanding given to Dad which allowed him to remain in his own home.
