June 11, 1930 – April 22, 2013
Priscilla Colwell (nee Murray) beloved wife of Dr. Murray Colwell of Calgary passed away in Calgary on Monday, April 22, 2013 at the age of 82 years.
Pic began her life on June 11, 1930 in Drumheller, AB. She grew up in Delia AB in a single parent family during the depression of the dirty thirties. Times were hard and luxuries were few but she formed many life long friendships during this period. As she said later in life, “I’ve been rich and I’ve been poor and rich is better”.
She attended public school in Delia until she moved to Edmonton where she completed high school. She graduated from nursing school at Edmonton General. Pic was adventurous and followed her sister Sheila into the then nascent industry of airline travel and began flying with TransCanada Air Lines as a stewardess in DC3’s from Edmonton into such exotic locations as Yellowknife, Norman Wells, Aklavik, and points north.
She married Murray on September 11, 1954 and they headed east to Toronto then south to Pittsburgh before moving to Calgary after four years away, first to Briar Hill and then to settle in Scarboro.
Pic & Murray travelled extensively throughout North America, Near East, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Australia & Zealand and enjoyed their summers at the cottage at Denman Island, BC after retirement.
She loved a good conversation, travelling, gardening, painting, parties, crossword puzzles, good food, and scotch “with a little water”, all in the company of her many good friends & family.
Besides her loving husband, Pic is dearly missed by her children, their spouses & her grandchildren; Judith (Michael), Patrick & Sara Taylor of Calgary; Patrick (Jan), Katie & Erin Colwell of Calgary; Grant (Allison) Mackenzie & Zoe Colwell of Phoenix AZ and Bradley Colwell of Toronto. Pic will also be missed by her brother Patrick Murray, sister-in-law Audrey Murray and brother-in-law Marvin Bishop. She was predeceased by sister Sheila Bishop and brothers, John Burgess & Hank Murray.
