Richard C. (Dick) Coffman, beloved husband of Naomi Coffman of Calgary, passed away on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 at the age of 79 years.
Dick was born to Frank and Zerma Coffman in Devil’s Lake, North Dakota. He graduated from Devil’s Lake High School in 1946. After two years in the U.S. Army 82 Airborne Division, he returned to school at the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, graduating with a degree in geological science. After graduation, he joined Gulf Oil Company and was with them for four years.
While with Gulf Oil in Tulsa, OK, Dick met the love of his life, Naomi Boswell and married her in 1955. He was then recruited by Imperial Oil as a geophysicist in exploration. During his twenty-six years with Imperial Oil he and Naomi lived in Calgary, Edmonton, Indonesia, Dawson Creek, Houston, and back to Calgary, where they retired in 1982. Dick worked as an exploration consultant for another six years following retirement from Imperial.
Dick enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing, playing cards and was always the consummate host to his visitors. He and Naomi spent the winters in Mesa, AZ at their second home where they spent their free time golfing, rock-hounding and doing lapidary work.
Besides his loving wife, Naomi, Dick is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Nick Peters of Coos Bay, OR; brother, Frank of Pamona, CA; and many nieces and nephews who all loved him dearly.
