Gerry Coers beloved husband of Johanna “Frederika”, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, at the Rockyview Hospital on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the age of 90 years.
Gerry and Johanna immigrated to Canada in 1974, to Salt Spring Island, BC, where he worked at his very successful painting company until his retirement in 1986.
One of his favorite pastimes was fishing on the ocean. In 1979, he became the president of the local Rotary Club, and he was involved with many other volunteer clubs. In 1989, he moved to Calgary to be close to his family. Here he became a ‘member’ of a social coffee group, which he enjoyed for over twelve years, meeting every morning for coffee at Subway.
He won several first place awards with his huge tropical aquarium at home in Holland; and loved bowling on Salt Spring and later in Calgary.
Gerry is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Johanna; his daughter Elisabeth; son-in-law Peter; his grandsons Gerry and Peter Jr.; and by his great-grandchildren Dyllan and Jenny.
We love him, miss him and he will forever be in our hearts.
