CLAYTON, Alma (nee Peterson)

April 20, 1923 – Standard, AB
November 23, 2013 – Airdrie, AB

Alma Clayton passed away peacefully at Bethany Care Centre, Airdrie, on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at the age of 90 years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children, son Verne and wife Kathleen of Calgary and daughters Nancy and husband Joe Jeffray and Trudy with her husband Don Evans all of Airdrie as well as grandchildren Richard, Sabrina, Greg, Heather, and Penny and ten great grandchildren.

Alma is also survived by her sister-in-law Pat Clayton of Airdrie as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard (Dick) in 2003 as well as brothers Ralph and Lloyd, sister Irene and a half brother John.

Alma was born on April 20, 1923 in Standard, Alberta. She attended local schools before enrolling in Olds College in 1939 to study as a dietitian. Alma married her college sweetheart Dick Clayton on August 11, 1944. They farmed west of Airdrie for 50 years where Alma excelled at homemaking and gardening while raising their three children. Along with Dick they were both very involved in community organizations, the West Airdrie REA, Airdrie Community Club, 4-H, UCW, The Order of the Eastern Star, Over 50 Club and charity work with the Red Cross and the Bag Ladies. Alma was also outstanding at knitting and crocheting. In later years Alma and Dick travelled extensively with community friends.

Funeral Services will be held at Airdrie United Church (211 – 1st Avenue NE, Airdrie) on Friday November 29, at 1:30 p.m. with Rev Dave Pollard officiating.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations be made to the Airdrie United Church (211 – 1st Avenue NE, Airdrie, AB T4B 0R4) or to the Bethany Care Centre, Airdrie (1736 – 1st Avenue NW, Airdrie, AB T4B 2C4).

The family would like to thank Dr. Julian Kyne, Sharan Bennett and the wonderful staff at the Bethany Care Centre for their care and compassion.

    To all of dear Alma’s family..we are so sorry for your loss,Alma was such a wonderful sweet lady.Mom and Alma were neighbors at Fletcher,then Supportive Living at Bethany followed by the LT side at Bethany…now they will be together again as my mom passed Nov 27…once again they will be able to visit..heaven has gained two wonderful angels.

    We remember one of the last times we saw your Mom – it was at the tree planting ceremony for our Dads. It was poignant that this common event brought us together. We are sorry that we could not be at your Mom’s funeral gathering but Bev’s illness flared and we just weren’t able to attend. We have many wonderful memories of your Mom to keep with us.
