Irene Churches beloved wife of Don of Calgary, passed away with her family by her side on Friday, December 24, 2010 at the Rockyview General Hospital after a lengthy illness at the age of 87 years.

Irene was born in Winnipeg, MB to Robert and Elizabeth Eccles. She lived with them in Steep Rock, MB, where she received her early education. In 1980, Irene opened a little shop in Trinity Lodge that was open to all the residents, which she ran for several years. Irene enjoyed walking in the mountains in Canmore and Banff. She was an avid reader and loved watching or listening to hockey and cheering on the Calgary Flames. All who knew and loved her will miss her sharp wit, sense of humour and remarkable memory for the minute details.

Please keep the library lights burning brightly, Irene, until we can swap books and videotapes again. We are so saddening by your passing but find solace in our belief that there is a reason for things and a better place beyond our physical presence here on Earth. Until then, God bless and rest.

  8. Dear Uncle Don, Karen, Greg & Family,
I still remember visiting as a young teen with my family. Kim, Chris, and of course my father, Bruce. This, too, was a time of grief having lost our Mom. Irene was so welcoming (as all of you were). Uncle Don, I sincerely thank you for whatever it was you contributed to helping my Dad have a lighter heart. You, too, deserve this. May all that which is love, light, and truth fill you and your family. Godbless, Donna & Scott Packer & family
