CHRISTOPHER, William (Bill) R., P.ENG (Civil 1971)

CHRISTOPHER, William (Bill) R., P.ENG (Civil 1971)

February 11, 1945 – Port de Grave, NL

November 30, 2013 – Calgary, AB

William Christopher, beloved husband of Muriel Christopher of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the age of 68 years at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre with his wife at his side.

A man with a zest for life and who had lived the last 2 1/2 years with inspiration and courage as he fought progressive prostate cancer to the end. His professional work life was in construction management with stops in Newfoundland, the Arctic, Winnipeg and Calgary.  He retired from Ellis Don in 2009.

Bill was a passionate guy. He loved anything to do with hockey; playing, watching, talking and being around his teammates “the boys”. He also enjoyed world travel and skiing in the Rockies with Muriel, a round of golf, fishing on the Atlantic Ocean with boyhood friend John and wife Madonna along with dear nephew Terry. He loved to try any trouting hole just to give it a flick he had a knack on where to find them. He was deeply loved by many and we mark with tremendous pride a life lived with love, commitment and tenacity. Whoever came in touch with him would remember his positive outlook, his sense of humor, creativity and integrity.

Bill leaves behind wonderful memories with loving wife Muriel of forty-four years; beloved son and daughter-in-law Desmond and Elizabeth; two precious grandchildren twins Claire and Liam five years in age, who were the joy of his life.  Also left behind are his dear sisters Nancy, Mary and Hattie; sister-in-law Doris and brothers-in law Bill and Sandra, and David and Ruby; and Elizabeth’s parents Marv and Sue; many nephews, nieces and lifelong friends. A special thank you to Dennis and Kolleen Langlois for their continued support over the years. Bill was predeceased by daughter Reneé, his parents and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Park Memorial Chapel (5008 Elbow Drive S.W. Calgary, AB) on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Thank you to Dr. Bruce Jespersen, Dr. Vickers, Nurse Bonnie and the staff of the TBCC for your support. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the War Amputations of Canada, National Headquarters, 2827 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, ON K1V 0C4, www.waramps.ca.

Cremation has taken place at Bill’s request and A Remembrance Service will be held at St. Luke’s Anglian Church in Port-de-Grave, NL in the summer of 2014 with inurnment at his daughters graveside. “There are three things that remain, Faith, Hope and Love – the greatest of these is Love.” 1st Corinthians 13:13

In living memory of Bill Christopher, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Calgary, AB, T2S 2L5, Telephone:  403-243-8200.

We are so very sorry to hear about the loss of “Coach B.” Our hearts are heavy, but we cannot help but smile when we remember our time spent with Bill. It was always a blast getting to spend time during his many visits to Minnesota. From trips to the rink for TGC, stops at B-Dubs, or nights at Des & Liz’ for Skip-Bo, Harmonica playing, and lots of laughs. A wonderful man, who will be missed by many. May you all find peace during this difficult time.

    All our love from Mankato, MN;

    Muriel and the Christopher family
Really saddened to hear of Bill’s passing.I have so many pleasant memories of our growing up in Port de Grave. Even though I was a little older, we played a lot of hockey and football–much of the hockey in the family hall. I am so glad I stopped by and had a long chat with you, Bill and Nancy on Nancy’s patio this past August. This will be one of my lasting memories. Wishing you the best as you go forward without Bill, knowing that your many pleasant memories will help sustain you. I will make a special effort to be at the Remembrance service at St. Luke’s this coming summer.
    God Bless, RAY

  22. Jean & Herb Goudie :

    Dear Muriel,

We were saddened to learn of Bill’s passing. We will always remember our trip to Cape Cod and Florida in the early seventies. Bill was driving the rental car and we managed to get ourselves lost in Cambridge and, or course, we were all giving poor Bill different directions. However, we did get to the Cape and then flew on down to Florida. It was a great trip. Our paths haven’t crossed for quite some time but can remember when you lived on Jersey Avenue here in Mount Pearl. Our sympathies to you, Desi and all the family.

    Sincerely,
    Herb and Jean.

  23. Jonathan Dickerman :

    Dear Murial Des and Family,

“Whoever came in touch with him would remember his positive outlook, his sense of humor, creativity and integrity.” I couldn’t agree more! I will never forget the time Coach B and I left TGC at Shattuck while Des and Shari ran a session. We wanted to go to Boston’s for a beer and apparently drove right by it, only to end up in Owatonna MN. We drove around for 30 minutes, eventually found it and had time for one. It was a good time. My sympathies to you Des and the family.
