Christensen (nee Hansen), Virgie Marion

The time finally arrived. The girl in the blue dress was gathered into the arms of her beloved husband Charles Christensen, and they finished this last journey together. Dad died in 1997 and mom missed him every day. She went gladly, and in peace, on Saturday evening of August 23. Virgie Marion Hansen was born in Kiowa, Colorado in 1916 and moved with her family to Alberta, to farm near Chancellor. The girl across the tracks caught the eye of Charles Christensen and they married in 1941. They lived in Vancouver for a short time during the war but later farmed in the Chancellor area, establishing many enduring friendships that continued through a lifetime. Mom was predeceased by her husband Charles, sister Adeleine, brother Kermit and daughter-in-law Sonia. Mom was the ultimate dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She leaves behind her children, Murray, Lyle (Eileen), Dale (Carole), and Carol (Mark). She was a favourite aunt to many nieces and nephews. Virgie’s grandchildren, Craig (Celeste), Kisa (Lyndon) and Leah, Melissa (Kris) and Jessica (Curtis) will forever miss their beautiful, beautiful grandma. Her first great grandchild Scarlette is wondering where her GG is. Kisa’s little Broden, who lives in Melbourne, Australia, was able to meet Mom this spring. Mom was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her third great grandchild and we know that our new sweet baby will have a special guardian angel. All of us know in our hearts that she is in a much better place. At mom’s request there will be a private family service. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Foundation, memo to Sonia’s fund or in memory of Virgie Christensen, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Medical Day Care, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: (403) 521-3433, or to a cause close to your heart. Our family would like to thank all those involved in Mom’s care at the Rockyview Hospital during the past two months, especially Dr. Leggett and the staff on Unit 83. In living memory of Virgie Christensen, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Fish Creek Chapel, 14441 BANNISTER ROAD S.E. Telephone: (403) 256-9575.
