CHRISTEN, Theodore “Ted”

January 23, 1921- Cham, Switzerland
December 27, 2013 – Calgary, AB

Theodore Christen passed away peacefully on Friday December 27, 2013 at the age of 92 years.

Ted was born in Switzerland and immigrated to Canada (Rockyford) where he married Marianne and raised his family. Ted was a farmer, a beekeeper and worked at the feed mill during the winter months. After retirement he moved to Calgary and continued to do what he loved: growing a garden, his raspberries and apple trees kept him very busy.

His passions were hunting, his bees and his work for the church. Ted had an easy going personality, his kindness and generosity shone through in his smile.

Ted is survived by Marianne; his four beautiful children, Barbara (David) Desmarais, Thomas (Lila) Christen, Joanne (Barry) Gerbrandt and Susan (Peter) Rehak; his thirteen grandchildren, David (Kiera) Desmarais, Clint Christen, Ryan Desmarais, Eric Christen, Tavis Christen, Jaylin Rehak, Keenan Rehak, Ainsley (Pat) Smith, Chelsi Campbell, Shelby-Rae Campbell, Dilcia Baires, Dylan Baires and Savannah Anderson; his two great-grandchildren, Jessica and London Desmarais. He is also survived by three brothers, three sisters and other family in Switzerland.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Eastside Memorial Chapel (5388 Memorial Drive N.E.) on Thursday, January 2, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.

In living memory of Ted Christen, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Eastside Memorial Chapel, 5388 MEMORIAL DRIVE N.E., Calgary, AB Telephone: 403-248-8585.

  1. Christen Josef :

  4. Geni and Astrid Christen :

Dear Barbara, Thomas, Joanne, Susan, Marianne and all family

Please accept our most sincere condolences on the loss of Ted.

We met Uncle Ted in Calgary during our Canada trip back in 2002 and we enjoyed the few days spending with him very much. He was a very kind and lovely person. We always remember how we enjoyed listening to him when he told about his immigration and his life in Canada.

Our thoughts are with you and your family during this difficult time and we have lit a candle for Ted at our home.

    The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
    Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
    as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
    But deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom, and the power,
    And the glory, forever. Amen.

    Matthew 6:9-13

  6. Family Meier-Christen :

    Dear Marianne and children
We were deeply saddened to hear about the death of Ted.
We know how difficult this is for you. You are in our thoughts.
Ted was writing many letters to our lovely mother Marianne (Teds sister, she died in 2005). This way we could participate at your life in Canada.
Many times she told us from Ted, his strong power and will to live in his loved Canada.
We think of you in this difficult time.
    May God bless you
