CHASE – Albert (Al) Edward

January 7, 1928 – August 7, 2009

We announce with sadness the sudden passing of Al Chase on August 7, 2009 at the age of 81 years.  Al was born on January 7, 1928 in Calgary to Florence and Albert Chase.  He grew up with his mother, brother George and sister Nancy, as his father had passed away when he was still an infant.  Al grew up in the small but well known town of Delia, AB and started high school at Western Canada High in Calgary and finished at West Jasper Place in Edmonton when Florence established a home there.  He received his degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alberta and started his career with Calgary Power.  Al ventured into the petroleum industry and took up residence for 29 years with Schlumberger of Canada and it was with them he transferred with this family to Calgary in 1971 establishing what was to be his home for the rest of his life in Bearspaw.  In 1982 his sense of adventure prompted him to start Chase Drilling which he eventually sold in 1997.  Through all his years Al kept himself busy with the Pony Club and Minor Hockey while his children were growing up.  Later he became involved with the Model A Club, Model T club and was on the Board of Directors for Ryan Energy.  Following Joyce’s passing in 1998, Al met Sherolyn Parker and they were married in the fall of 2003.  Together they went on travel adventures that took them around the world.  Al is survived by his wife Sherolyn; sons, David, Bert and Bill; his daughter Leslie; grandchildren Jennie, Emily, Cheyanda, Cody, Colton, Brandon and Sylvia; son-in-law Paul Alves and daughter-in-laws Sally, Cindy and Terry.  He is also survived by Sherolyn’s family; son Ken (Midori) and their children Sumeri and Luke and daughter Colleen and her children Lyn, Jennifer, John Eric, and Byron.  Al was predeceased by his parents Florence and Albert, his siblings Margaret, Nancy and George, and his first wife Joyce.  Funeral Services will be held at Christ Church Elbow Park (3602 – 8th Street S.W.) on Monday, August 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m.  Graveside Service to follow at Cochrane Cemetery.  You may forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com.  If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of the donor’s choice.  In living memory of Al Chase, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANETelephone: (403) 932-4740.

  3. Sherolyn and family,

I am very sorry to hear of Al’s passing. I pass on my condolances. I worked for Al for almost seven years and always enjoyed every minute of it. He taught me a lot and I had the upmost respect and admiration for him. I had not seen Al for about a year, however I called him about three weeks ago and we had a very nice chat, it was the same old Al I have known for 24 years. I will miss and remember him.

I was greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of Al. I met Al early in his career at Sclumberger and we had a strong business relationship for many years thereafter. In recent years, it has been a pleasure visiting with Al and Sherolyn on occasion at CPO concerts.

    Sincerely,
