Charlebois, Sister Leonie FJC

Sister Leonie (Anna Beatrice) Charlebois died peacefully on August 22, 2008 at the age of 93 years.

 Leonie the youngest of a family of ten, was born in Carbon, AB to Damase and Leonie Charlebois. On September 8, 1933, she entered the Society of the Sisters, Faithful Companions of Jesus in Brussels, Belgium. After her religious profession, Sister Leonie attended Calgary Normal School for teacher training and taught for a total of forty five years; in Calgary, at St. Mary’s Girls High School, in Lethbridge at St. Joseph’s High and at St.John’s School in Weston, Ontario. After retirement from teaching, she volunteered as a teacher for several years, in Weston Ontario and Oyen, AB. When finally retired she was missioned to the FCJ House community in Calgary. During that time, Sister Leonie visited senior citizens homes and volunteered at the Calgary Public Library. As her health began to fail, Sister Leonie was missioned to Sacred Heart Convent, Calgary and thence to Holy Cross Care Centre for six years, until its closure in 2007. This past year she has resided at Mount Royal Care Centre in Calgary. 

Sister Leonie was predeceased by her parents and her nine brothers and sisters. She is survived by many nieces and nephews, other family members, friends, former students and her FCJ Sisters, for all of whom she prayed each day. 

Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel (219 – 19 Avenue S.W. Calgary, AB) on Monday, August 25, 2008 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm followed by Prayers and Tributes at 7:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Convent Chapel (219 – 19 Avenue S.W. Calgary, AB) on Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at 2:00 pm. Graveside Service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. We are most grateful to the staff at Mount Royal Care Centre for all the loving care they gave to Sister Leonie while she was a resident there.
