  5. Brenda Hoskin :

Please accept my sincere sympathies in the loss of your daughter/sister (in-law)/wife and mother.

The Salter family has will always hold a special meaning to me. Edna (Whittemore) was my grade 2teacher. It was always a big day when she invited her sister, Loretta, to our class for a sing-along. If i’m not mistaken, Loretta played guitar while Edna played accordian and, of course, we sang up every song they knew — or at least tried to! Loretta used to visit now and again and we were always thrilled to have her.

Later on, Edna’s husband, Ron (Mr. Whiitemore)taught me and later still, Mrs. Loretta Salter influenced our education as a career counsellor at LTCHS (I really should have paid a bit more attention to what she had to say but that’s an entirely different story!). Clearly, teaching runs in the blood of this family. I have no doubt, Loretta made a great one and was a favorite of many of her students.

May you find peace and comfort in the knowledge that Loretta inspired many children. I, for one, have wonderfully fond memories of a young girl singing, playing and entertaining her sister’s classroom.

  12. Linda Di Battista :

    To the Chaplin family,
I would like to express my sadness in hearing of Loretta’s death. Loretta and I worked together at St John Fine Arts for a few years. I know from that short experience, and many conversations, that she was a dedicated, caring teacher, colleague, mother and wife. When she shared stories about Matt, her voice and the twinkle in her eyes revealed the intense pride she had in him. I am glad that her grandson got the chance to experience his grandmother’s “big heart”.

Paul and I are so deeply sorry to hear of Loretta;s Passing and our prayers and hearts go out to Dave and their SOn and the rest of the family

Loretta I knew from Red Deer but we became great friends in Leominster, Massachusetts when Dave worked for Nova and we also relocated from Red Deer.

She helped me through rough times with back pain and loneliness when we came here first and never hesitated to bring me to ER or come and visit and stay with me after procedures. I will miss her terribly.

She had such a strong pride in her work as a teacher, a friend and a soulmate to Dave and her Son.

Our heartfelt sympathy to you all. Mrs. Chaplin was an amazing teacher and colleague. My son Alfonso was in her class, and she impacted his learning and growth immensely. Mrs. Chaplin’s love for her students did not go unnoticed. My son was very fond of her, and she will always have a special place in his heart. She will be forever remembered as a very special friend and mentor to us both. We feel privileged to have known such an incredibly talented, generous, and compassionate woman. We pray that God will give you all strength to endure the difficult days ahead. Know that now she is in a beautiful place with our Lord, and she has continued her journey to His kingdom. 23. Sharon Thompson :

I am so sorry to hear that Mrs. Chaplin had passed away. I worked with her at St. Elizabeth and my daughter was in her class. She had such a kind spirit and was so wonderful with the kids.
She was always so calm and had patience to spare (ie. when eggs were dropped on the floor when we were making our giant cookies to demonstrate fractions!). I still have her recipe to this day “Mrs. Chaplin’s Giant Cookie” that was included in our St. John the Evangelist student cookbook. My prayers are with your family during this difficult time.
