CAVE, Scott

January 25, 1963 – May 8, 2012

Scott Cave passed away on Tuesday May 8, 2012 at the age of 49 years.

Scott was a curly haired little boy who was full of vim and vigor. He attended early school in Calgary and then in 1975 moved with his family to Cochrane where he attended school from grade seven to twelve. He graduated from SAIT and the University of Calgary with a business education….but, as Hayley says, his favorite class was film studies. Throughout his life Scott had many friends and a large family that he laughed with and loved. Scott’s greatest glory was the birth of his sweet daughter, Hayley. She was the apple of his eye and with her he shared his love of movies, traveling, sports, music, and anything else that was of interest to Hayley.

Scott is survived by his loving daughter, Hayley Cave, father, Douglas Cave (May Olson), his sister, Alison (Ron) Galbraith, his niece, Jessica Galbraith, nephew, Wade Galbraith, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins that are too many to mention, but loved all the same.

Scott was predeceased by his mother, Joyce Elizabeth Cave, his brother, Curtis Cave, and his nephew, Jordan Leslie Galbraith.

A Memorial Service will be held at Cochrane Alliance Church (902 Glenbow Drive), on Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Canadian Diabetes Association, #204, 2323 – 32nd Avenue N.E., Calgary, AB T2E 6Z3 Telephone: (403) 266-0620, ext. 112, www.diabetes.ca.

In living memory of Scott Cave, a tree will be planted at Big Hill Springs Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, Cochrane Funeral Home, 369 RAILWAY STREET, COCHRANE. Telephone: (403) 932-4740.

  7. Janet Eagleson (Mansfield, ON) :

    Hayley (and family)
Your dad and I spent many years duking it out in fantasy hockey AND baseball — he took trading and winning VERY seriously. He even won both leagues this past season! We had many long chats about both sports, but we also sometimes talked about you. I know you’re in a lot of pain right now. And I know the words of a stranger from several provinces away don’t mean a lot right now. But please know that his love — and pride — for you permeated every cell of his body. And I could always hear (and read) the smile he had on his face when he talked or wrote about you.

He was a good man and a great dad. I had tears in my eyes when I learned about his passing earlier this week. I still do. I’ll think of him every time I watch his beloved Bruins or BoSox.

Janet (on behalf of Scott’s friends in the Fuhrless fantasy hockey league and Suicide Squeeze/Hit for the Cycle fantasy baseball league)

  21. Fred Gillies :

I was saddened to hear of Scott’s passing, especially at such a young age. I got to know Scott while playing slowpitch in the Out To Lunch Bunch (OTLB)league and he was sure a great guy to play against. So sportsmanlike, fun to be around the diamond with and great to have a beer with at the diamond after a game. He was a guy who perfectly understood the concept of recreational sports and never tried to make like he was in the Majors, unlike some of the players in the league. I’m sure he’s up there smiling and waitin for a good pitch right now. To Hayley and the rest of Scott’s family, I send sincere condolences. Rest in peace Scott, and don’t take that first pitch.

  30. Scott was my Supervisor at Enerflex, Scott was fairly unassuming and was a hard working man. He made a great team leader for the Purchasing department. He encouraged me to do well and lead by example. He always spoke very highly about his daughter and her prowess in acting and how talented she was. Her very mention brought a twinkle in his eye. Scott dealt with his health issue stoically and still did justice to is work and encouraged the team to perform better. I thoroughly enjoyed working with Scott. I am really saddened on this untimely passing away of dear Scott and express my heartfelt condolences to his family.
