CAVANAGH – Bernard James

April 9, 1928 – March 24, 2010

It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing at home of our father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Bernie Cavanagh, on Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at the age of 81 years.

Bernie had a long career with NCR which allowed him to travel the world. He loved to play golf, having memberships at Redwood Meadows and Priddis Greens. His final wish was to have his cremated remains scattered on his favourite hole, the 13th hole at Redwood Meadows, which overlooks the Elbow River and mountains.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sons, Gary (Janis), Kevin (Sylvia) and Brian (Monica), step-sons Mark, Steve, Kirk and Scott, grandchildren, Kyle and Melissa (Jeremy), great grandchildren Brady and Mikey. Bernie is also survived by his brothers Brian, Larry and Vernon. Bernie was predeceased by his first wife Delphine, second wife Lois and son Ricky.

A Memorial Service will be held at St. Laurence Anglican Church (5490 Lakeview Drive S.W.) on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. Forward condolences through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: (403) 521-3433.

In living memory of Bernie Cavanagh, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES Park Memorial Chapel, 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W. Telephone: (403) 243-8200.

My condolences to Bernie’s family. I have many good memories of the days working alongside Bernie at NCR. His delightful wit and kind attitude toward others, never failed to brighten the day for those around him. Over several years, I don’t ever recall hearing a negative comment about Bernie, and I know he was appreciated by colleagues and customers alike.

Bernie was as good a brother as he was a man-and that is saying a lot–My health prevents me from travel so I could speak to my big brothers fine qualities—all the brothers referred to each other as CAV—-WE have now lost two—Leo and Bernie—

    Good night Cav——love–Cav [Larry]

  10. My deepest sympathies on Bernie’s passing. I was the last of Bernie’s hires before he left NCR and I can never thank him enough for the opportunities that he gave to me. His enthusiasm for life and those around him were infectious. He was a colleague that all spoke highly of as a “gentleman” and a “class act”
