CASS, Ina

February 21, 1926 – Clover Bar, Alberta
June 12, 2018 – Calgary, Alberta

After a brief illness Ina passed away at the Brentwood Care Centre where she had lived for the past year on June 12, 2018 at the age of 92 years.

Ina’s parents emigrated from Scotland to Alberta in 1922 and settled in Clover Bar, Alberta where William worked in the coal mines. Ina was born there in 1926 and the family remained in Clover Bar until they moved into Edmonton in the early 1940s. She attended business college and worked for Marshall Wells for ten years. Ina married Vernon Cass in June 1950 and they lived in Edmonton until 1955 when they moved to the Banff Trail district in Calgary. Once her children were grown Ina worked for fifteen year at Rogers Cable Television. Ina and Vernon were very active members of St. David’s United Church in the 1960s where Ina sang in the choir. They met many of their life-long friends at the church. Later in life Ina attended Central United. Ina loved to travel and enjoyed many vacations with her children and grandchildren. She also loved baking and music, especially tunes from Scotland. In 2001 she moved to the Sierras of Tuscany condo where she had many wonderful friends and neighbours.

Ina is survived by her four children Douglas (Victoria), Carol (Bruce Wilson), Wendy (Earl Glidden) and Janice (Nigel Smith). She is also survived by her four grandchildren James Cass (Megan Mawhinney), Lauren (Brian Mills), Jonathan Cass, and Keiana Smith; and her great-grandson Finn Mills.

She was predeceased by her husband Vernon Cass in 1982, her parents William and Mary Rae and her brother David Rae.

Funeral Services will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W., Calgary, AB), on Monday, June 18, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Reception to follow at the funeral home. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. The family would like to thank her many caregivers especially Louise, Colleen and Yvonne. Condolence Messages

  1. Carol anderson :

Carol and Bruce and all of your family,

Barb called me yesterday to tell me about your mother’s passing on to her new life. Dave and I send our sympathy to each of you. Your mom holds many special memories in my life and I know how special she is to you. Mothers hold a place in our hearts and lives that no one else does. May you find peace in the many wonderful memories of your time together. We are praying for you now and for the days of transition that lie ahead.

We may not have seen each other often in the last several years as our paths have gone in different directions but I hold our friendship very dear.

  4. Mary and Art Sichello :

Hello to all of Ina’s family. We didn’t get to know Ina very well as we bought and moved into her suite (221). I have often said I wished that things had been different, as I know Ina and I would have become very good friends. Was not meant to be, but having known Bruce for many years, I was always able to keep in touch indirectly. Rest Well Ina.
