Verlaine Tressa Carter passed away on May 17, 2012 at the age of 90 years, with loved ones at her side.
Verlaine was born in Stratford Ontario in 1922, and lived many places in Canada, eventually settling in Calgary in 1968. Verlaine made her career in retail, managing many women’s clothing stores in the Calgary area. After retirement, Verlaine became a world traveller, exploring the far corners of the globe, often in the company of her sister Bonnie. Her spirit of adventure was an inspiration to many around her. She was involved in raising 4 decades of children, spending her time not only with her own two boys, but also with her grandchildren. She was well-loved and will be sorely missed.
Verlaine is survived by her son Steven (Rebecca Johnson) of Victoria BC; her sister Bonnie Smith of Kingston, NS; her four grandchildren Kelly (Dan Deschamps) Carter, Brian (Jamie) Carter, Alex Carter-Johnson and Duncan Carter-Johnson; by her great-grandchild Caitlyn Carter; and by her daughter-in-law Kathryn Carter. She was predeceased by her husband Len in 1983, and by her son Bob in 2008.
