CARTER – Wendy Elizabeth

October 23, 1953 – August 26, 2010

Wendy after a courageous fight with Melanoma Cancer passed away quietly, at home, August 26th 2010, surrounded and supported by her family.

Wendy graduated from Dawson College in Montreal, as a Medical Lab Technician, and worked first at the Royal Vic Hospital there, before coming out West in ‘75 to start a fresh new adventure in Calgary, where she met her husband Dave. She continued her career path at Rocky View, Red Deer General, then decided to stay at home for the formative years to raise their two sons, Trevor and Nick, who were her pride and joy. She continued on to further her business career in private labs, and eventually in sales with VWR, and BD Canada. She enjoyed her many achievements in life, especially her running of two full marathons with her running buddies. She also excelled in Tai Chi, which helped her during her battle with cancer.

Some say she was taken too young, but she said she enjoyed her fifty-six years here. It was time for her to continue her journey. She is gone from this life, but she will be around in spirit, and missing her family named above, along with her parents Vic and Gwen Southin of Sechelt, BC; her brothers, Roger (Nicole), Steve (Maggie), and Peter; her father and mother-in-law Don and Alison Carter of Toronto; brothers and sisters-in-law, Steve (Cathy) Carter of Toronto, Roslyn and Gerry Bimm of Otter Lake; and all her nieces and nephews, and relatives afar.

Wendy also wanted to thank all her friends who supported her in so many ways, and gave her inspirations that were helpful during her time of need. A hug and kiss to you all.

Special thanks to the Cross Cancer Clinic, Dr Smylie, Leslie Fedorak, and staff, along with the Tom Baker Clinic and the Home Care System, all of them FIRST CLASS!!

A Celebration of Wendy’s life will be held at Lake Sundance Community Centre (63 Suncrest Way S.E.) on Sunday, September 26, 2010 from 12:00 noon to 4:00 p.m.  Please RSVP through www.mcinnisandholloway.com (as if you are sending a condolence) or contact the family directly.  Ccondolences may also be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Condolence Messages

  1. Roslyn Carter,Gerry Bimm and family :

Our deepest sympathies to Dave, Trevor and Nick, Wendy’s parents and family who will miss Wendy deeply. Because of geographical distance we did not spend as much time with Wendy as others, but she touched us with her spirit, laughter, determination, caring and especially her late courage in her battle against cancer. Dave, you and the boys were there for her in every way to give her comfort and strength. On the day that Wendy passed I saw a double rainbow on the drive home from work, and once at home a huge rainbow over the lake; the first time ever to see this. I believe it was Wendy’s spirit stopping in to say so long, and to tell us to follow our dreams and that she is now free to follow her own rainbow, maybe to a new marathon!
Much Love, Roz, Gerry, Cameron, Kayla, Duncan and Michelle.

  2. Barb Olmstead :

    Dear Dave, Trevor and Nick,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message to you. I am so very sorry to hear of Wendy’s death. There are just no words to express my sympathy.

I always admired Wendy’s positive attitude throughout her illness. She had a beautiful spirit and an equally beautiful smile.

Every time I saw Wendy this last while, we were each at the hair salon. We would always laugh about how that seemed to always be the place where we would see each other. Even on Bailey and Jer’s wedding day, we ran into each other that morning at the salon.

May she rest in peace now.

    Sincerely,
    Barb Olmstead

I loved Wendy’s sense of humor and her positive thinking, and we became such good friends in Calgary during those years. My prayers and thoughts are with you Dave and the boys and all of Wendy’s family. Nancy Chmilar

  8. Don Edgecombe :

Although Wendy’s passing was expected it seems far too soon and no easier to accept. Heaven is getting a super-positive, happy, upbeat person. Each of our children, individually meeting Wendy, would later comment, “She’s so nice!”. We were amongst couples for an evening-out the day she and Dave learned the cancer had reappeared. Rather than risk spoiling our event she chose to wait a few days to let us know. We thought it amazing that she maintained her cheery personality behind this dreadful news. But that was Wendy then and at the end. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dave and the boys, who got regular doses of Wendy’s love and will miss her a great deal.

    Dear Dave, Trevor and Nick
Aunt Wendy was a beautiful strong woman and we are all so blessed to have known her. Even though I haven’t seen her since she and Uncle Dave moved back out west, I still vividly remember our visits, her warm heart and her contagious happiness. She lived every moment to the fullest and her courage and strength is an inspiration to us all. She will be missed but she is in a better place now, with mocha by her side watching over us all.
