Campbell, James “Jim” Archibald

On Thursday, July 3, 2008, Jim Campbell was called home by his Lord after a brief and courageous battle with liver cancer. He was born in Calgary, Alberta on January 19, 1950 and remained here with the exception of the four years necessary to complete his Bachelor of Commerce Degree at the University of Alberta. He spent the majority of his career in Calgary’s oil and gas drilling sector. Jim was an avid sports enthusiast and an active member of the Earl Grey Golf and Country Club. He shared his love of sports with his sons, and coached their hockey teams, as well as served on the Royals Hockey Board. By volunteering on the Midsun and Oakridge community associations, Jim manifested the belief that one should give back to the community in which they live. Jim’s generous heart was also demonstrated by his numerous contributions to and canvassing for charities. Additionally, Jim served his church community of First Alliance for over twenty-five years. Jim was an amazing husband, father, “papa,” brother and friend. He is survived by his bride, Dianne; children, Jeff (Elaine), Carlee and Matt (Corie); his grandchildren, Issac James and Lincoln Jeffrey; and his brother, Bruce (Alice) and their children, Daryl and Leslie. He will also be held in the hearts of his extended family of the Jorgensons, Junkers, Sinclairs and Rheas. He was predeceased by his parents, Jane and Archie Campbell, as well as his stepfather, Harold Carlyle. A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at First Alliance Church (12345 – 40th Street S.E.) on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with reception to follow. Forward condolences through If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, earmarked for liver cancer research, c/o Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 – 29 Street N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 4N2 Telephone: (403) 521-3433.
