CALGARO, Catherine Valerie

January 2, 1951 – Victoria, BC
March 15, 2014 – Calgary, AB

After a five year battle with cancer, Catherine “Cathie” Valerie Calgaro passed away surrounded by family and friends early on Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the age of 63 years.

Cathie is survived by her husband of forty-three years John, daughter Christina (Waldo), and her mother-in-law Angelina Calgaro. She was predeceased by her parents, Valerie and George Jacob.

Cathie was born in Victoria, BC. While in Victoria Cathie was involved in the Esquimalt Girls Drum Core and played ball in the Provincial Government Woman’s League for many years. Cathie and John moved to Calgary in 1979 to start a new business and raise a family. They worked hard and made a lot of wonderful friends. Cathie was a leader in many ways, including her fundraising efforts for cancer research and other charities, especially for the Southern Alberta Multiple Myeloma Society. Her outgoing nature and zest for life brought people together, and Cathie loved nothing better than friends and camaraderie. During her five year battle with multiple myeloma, Cathie remained positive and inspired many people around her.

A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY’S Fish Creek Chapel (14441 Bannister Road S.E.) on Friday, March 28, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. A Celebration of her life will be held in August in Victoria, BC, date to be announced. John, Christina, and family. It is so sad when a wonderful person passes, and Cathie was a wonderful person. I had really looked forward to seeing her at George’s funeral but it was not to be. I am glad her obituary was in the Victoria paper as she still has friends and relatives here who remember her fondly, even though she and John moved away over 30 years ago.

Looking forward to her celebration of life in August.

With our deepest sympathy, Bill and JoAnn Fife

  11. Sally Glenn (quast) :

    Dear John
Many years ago I worked for you and Cathie and often thought of you both over the years. Recently I joined Facebook to get in touch with people I wanted to reconnect with. Today I was trying to find Cathie and found that Cathie passed away last year. I am so sad to hear this and I wish I’d searched earlier and reconnected. She was a wonderful person. I am so sorry for your loss. I never met Christina but I’m sure she is a wonderful daughter and much comfort to you.
I do hope that you receive this message
    All the best
    Sally Glenn (quast)
